Boating Apps Scuttlebutt Has Teamed Up With Boat Fix........
The recently introduced Scuttlebutt social network is the first free social media platform specifically designed for the boating community, and now, they have teamed up with Boat Fix to provide a service that will help protect a boater's investment.
Boat Fix is a telematics-driven monitoring, tracking, alert and 24/7 mechanical support service, which keeps tabs on the boat's key systems, tracks location, speed and other GPS information, providing alerts when there are potential issues.
The Scuttlebutt app is available for free on iPhone and Android mobile devices. Those who download the free Scuttlebutt app, will receive a free Boat Fix monitoring device (a $199 value) with a pre-paid annual subscription to the Boat Fix service for $240........

A Bit of Missouri River History
Missouri River At St. Charles, Missouri New Bridge Spanning The Missouri River Opened In 1958........
During the fist week of September 1958, workers began opening the four lanes of the new Missouri River Bridge in phases. The span replaced a 19th century bridge downriver that was overloaded with 19,000 vehicles each day.
The $8.5 million bridge was a key piece of the Mark Twain Expressway, now known as Interstate 70. The $97 million, 24 mile long expressway running from downtown St. Louis into St. Charles was the first section of today's regional system of superhighways.
The span paved the way for the migration westward into St. Charles County. In 1958, St. Charles County had 53,000 residents. Now, there are over 400,000. In 1979, a second bridge was opened next to the Mark Twain span. Each day, the pair carry over 150,000 vehicles over the Missouri River........

Mississippi River At Cape Girardeau, Missouri River Heritage Museum Displaying Mosaics Of Local Artist........
The Cape Girardeau River Heritage Museum is displaying the work of local artist David Cargle through September 25th. The exhibit consists of around 25 glass mosaic wall hanging pieces in a variety of color, size and depictions.
Cargle says that he is enjoying having his work on display at this point in his life. He has been making mosaics since he retired from his job as a special education teaching assistant about seven years ago.
Cargle will be appearing at the River Heritage Museum from 5 to 7 on Friday for a Meet the Artist event, and he will also speak about his technique on September 25th at 11 am.........

DockSense Control will prevent a vessel from colliding with a detected object and moves the boat in the direction the captain commands it to via the joystick. All this occurs while the system compensates wind and tide effects........

Boat Manufacturer Groupe Beneteau Outlined Future Offerings........
Earlier this week at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Groupe Beneteau announced a variety of notable updates to their lineup, including updated model lines, e-propulsion and an all-new catamaran model line.
Wellcraft, which was acquired by the Groupe in 2017, announced that they are expanding their portfolio significantly to include a range of "adventure cruisers".
The first offering in the new line will be a 35 foot, triple outboard powered Commuter 355, which is slated to debut in the U.S. in the spring of 2022. An inboard line will be introduced shortly thereafter, and a line of luxury center consoles will follow that........

Mississippi River Cruising ACL Announced American Melody's Inaugural Season........
American Cruise Lines (ALC) has announced the beginning of the American Melody's inaugural season. The American Melody is ACL's newest riverboat, and the vessel departed on the line's longest Mississippi River cruise last Friday.
The American Melody's passengers celebrated Labor Day Weekend exploring the Lower Mississippi River as they began ACL's 22 day complete Mississippi River Cruise.
Over the course of American Melody's inaugural season, guests will cruise the Mississippi River while being treated to complementary pre-cruise nights aboard the vessel, cocktail parties, Mississippi-inspired dinners and special inaugural season gifts........

Mississippi River At St. Paul, Minnesota St. Paul Requesting $20 Million For A River Center........
In early August, the St. Paul city council approved a resolution asking the state of Minnesota for a grant of $20 million to establish a recreation and environmental education center along the riverbank at the Watergate Marina. The site would also host the National Park Service's Mississippi River headquarters.
According to Mary deLaittre, the executive director of the Great River Passage Conservancy, the proposed River Learning Center would provide educational programming, walking tours and rental equipment for outdoor recreation, allowing visitors to connect with the area's history and natural resources.
Last year, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz had included $3 million for the center's design and planning costs, however, the funding was not included in the final bonding bill passed by the legislature. The design costs for the Great River Passage Conservancy were covered by private donations........

Boater Education Discover Boating Introduced New Video Series........
Discover Boating recently launched a new digital video series, Boating Basics: Pro Tips powered by Progressive on their YouTube channel to engage and educate boaters.
The first video released, Preparing for a Day on the Water presents a pre-departure boating check list all boaters should have on hand every time they leave the dock. THe checklist includes U.S. Coast Guard required safety equipment, such as life jackets, fire extinguishers, visual distress signals, sound signaling devices and a throwable floatation device.
Ellen Bradley, NMMA senior vice president and chief brand officer says that boaters, especially newcomers, are looking for boating tips that provide the nautical know-how needed to provide a stress-free day out on the water. She adds Discover Boating's new video series offers the expert tips that meet the needs of today's consumers........

Boat Sales July Was The Third Consecutive Month Of Slowed Boat Sales........
According to the preliminary data from Statistical Surveys, a Michigan-based firm that tracks new-boat registrations, July was the third consecutive month of slowed stories.
Continuing supply chain issues as well as a shortage of nearly everything, from skilled workers and foam and resin to engines and oil filters have continued to stymie manufactures, keeping them from delivering boats to waiting customers.
July 2020's sales numbers will be almost impossible to top, with it being the second highest single month of new boat sales, seasonally adjusted, in the past 13 years. July 2012, however, saw total boating registrations were down 43 percent for the month, with the main powerboat segments down 49 percent........

Garmin has introduced their Surround View Camera System, which the company is called a "breakthrough in video guidance for recreational boating and yachting".
The system uses six through-hull mounted cameras that act as multiple sets of eyes, offering a live 360 degree bird's eye view around the vessel, which provides captains a quick view of the vessel's perimeter during low-speed maneuvers.

Kampsville Ferry
September 13 - 30, 2021 Illinois River At Kampsville, Illinois Kampsville Ferry Closing For The Remainder Of September........
On Tuesday, officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the upcoming Kampsville Ferry repair and improvement project will necessitate the complete closure of the ferry on both sides of the Illinois River.
The ferry will be closed beginning on Monday, September 13 and continue through Friday, September 30th. The complete shutdown of the ferry is necessary to allow crews to build new roadway ramps for the ferry.
After the ramp work is wrapped up on Friday, September 30, the ferry will reopen and operate while crews turn their attention to the ferry office parking lot. Ferry traffic should not affected by this phase of the project, which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022........

Wednesday evening, the summer's last big event, the Alton Expo, will be held at the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater. The Alton Expo will run through Sunday and will feature music, carnival rides, food and drink along the Mississippi riverfront.
The Expo will run from 5 pm to 10 pm Wednesday through Friday, 1 pm to 10 pm on Saturday and 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday. All rides are just one ticket on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
This year's Expo will begin Wednesday with a special Blues Alumni autograph and photo event from 6 pm to 8 pm. Blues Alums scheduled to appear are Darin Kimble, Jeff Brown, Reed Low and Mike Zuke........

Missouri River At St. Charles, Missouri Westbound Discovery Bridge Lane Closing For Inspection........
Officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation announced that a westbound land of the Route 370 Discovery Bridge linking St. Louis and St. Charles counties will be closed starting at 7 am Wednesday for routing bridge inspections.
The closure of the right-hand westbound lane will also mean the bike lane will be inaccessible while the inspections are being carried out. Both the right hand lane and bike path are expected to reopen by 3 pm Friday. The inspection work will be dependant upon the weather........

Looking Down River Lower Mississippi River Levees Corps Released Re-Evaluation Reports On Raising Levees........
Back in early August, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District released the final version of the Lake Pontchartrain and Vicinity and the West Bank and Vicinity General Re-Evaluation Reports, which detail the Corps plans for raising levees and floodwalls in the New Orleans area between now and 2078.
These levee lifts and new floodwalls are necessary to guarantee that the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System can provide protection from storm surges having a 1 percent chance of occurring in any given year. That protection level is needed for the area to qualify for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's National Flood Insurance Program
The report reveals that the Corps is recommending 50 miles of levee lifts, the reconstruction of 1 mile of floodwall and the addition of 2.2 miles of floodwalls to be constructed over the next 50-plus years at a cost of $1.1 billion. Most of the work would be along the Lake Pontchartrain shoreline, with the the levee lifts along the Mississippi River along the east bank in St. Bernard Parish........

Mississippi River At Grafton, Illinois Summer Trifecta Boosts Grafton Tourism Season........
According to Mike Morrow, Mayor of Grafton, three things made for a successful tourism season: no flooding, beautiful sunny weather, and a steady flood of people from St. Louis. He adds that the town's parking lots have been full every weekend.
Morrow says that he heads out on weekends and evenings to chat with visitors to see where they are from. He adds that he visitors like the feel of Grafton and spending time on the Mississippi River. He notes that there are no levees and people can dip their toes in the river.
Morrow said that the Thursday night fireworks, which are new this year, were a draw for people, as were the gondola rides, restaurants, taverns, wineries and ziplines........

Missouri River History Steamboat Arabia The Focus Of A Documentary........
While cruising through the channels of the online streaming services, we reeled in a documentary focused on the excavation and preservation of the cargo of the wreck of the Steamboat Arabia, which was found 45 feet under a cornfield about a half mile from the present day Missouri River channel near Kansas City, Missouri.
On September 5, 1856, the Arabia hit a snag in the river and sank, taking up to 222 tons of cargo under the muddy river. The 150 passengers and crew made it to safety.
The wreck was discovered in 1988, and over the next several months, the Arabia was excavated, revealing the largest and most preserved cache of pre-Civil War artifacts, including tools, weaponry, clothing, preserved fruits and vegetables. some of the artifacts are on display at the Arabia Steamboat Museum located in Kansas City's historic City Market.
The documentary, called Cornfield Shipwreck, also briefly looks at the search for an earlier sunken steamboat, the Malta. The documentary is available for viewing on the HBO Max channel........

Mississippi River At St. Louis, Missouri Floodwall Art Event Returned This Weekend........
Over the Labor Day weekend, Paint Louis, the annual graffiti and street art event held along the St. Louis Mississippi River floodwall returned for it's twelfth year after being cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Artists and writers from around the world signed up to paint sections of the two mile long floodwall located south of the Gateway Arch. The event ran through Sunday........

Added Monday Upcoming Events Saturday, September 11, 2021 Mississippi River Near Alton, Illinois Second Annual Catfish Classic Is Next Weekend........
100 teams of anglers from eight states will be in Alton, Illinois next Saturday to participate in the 2021 Alton Catfish Classic, which is sponsored by Alton's own Bluff City Outdoors.
On Tournament day, the teams will depart from Alton and return to have their catches officially weighed in front of a crowd at the Liberty Bank Alton Amphitheater. All of the fish will be released back into the river following the weigh in and photographs.
The area around the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers is the home of some gigantic blue catfish, including the world-record setting 124 pound blue cat caught near Alton in May of 2005........

Added Monday Upper Mississippi River Mississippi River Association Under Investigation........
The Environmental Protection Agency is investigating whether the Upper Mississippi River Basin Association has violated the Civil Rights Act. The UMRBA is a five state governmental agency that deals with issues concerning the Upper Mississippi River.
Back in July, the federal agency's External Civil Rights Compliance Office accepted a complaint against the UMRBA, which represents the governors of Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
American Rivers filed the complaint, which alleges that the basin association discriminates against communities of color by preventing them from participation in the development of programs, projects and policies related to Mississippi River flooding........

Added Monday The Gulf Of Mexico Large Oil Spill Left By Hurricane Ida........
On Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard announced that cleanup crews had been dispatched to a considerable oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico following Hurricane Ida.
The spill, which is continuing, seems to be coming from an underwater source at an offshore drilling lease approximately two miles south of Port Fourchon, Louisiana. The location is near the site of a miles-long black and brown oil slick visible from the air.
Lieutenant John Edwards, a Coast Guard spokesman says that the response teams are working to determine the size and scope of the spill and that the source of the spill is located in Bay Marchand, Block 4. It is believed to be crude oil from an underwater pipeline owned by Talos Energy........

On September 5, 1929, crews began the monumental task of clearing the lane that would eventually become the Lake of the Ozarks. Some 30,000 acres of trees were cut down and the town of Linn Creek was demolished.
Just under two years later, on May 30, 2931, just weeks after being declared complete, the Lake of the Ozarks was officially opened to boat traffic. After another four months, workers inside the new Bagnell Dam turned on the switches that ran current from the large hydroelectric generators.
High tension wires were strung through the dense, hilly forest to carry power to a large feeder station in Wellston as well as to present-day Park Hills, located in Missouri's old lead belt........

After better than a century of dike, dam and riverbank development, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers established the Missouri RIver Recovery Program, which was tasked by law to protect and restore endangered species populations along the Missouri River.
Now, the program is threatened, as it is under fire by farmers, industry and transportation interests, left unbacked by politicians and overmatched by competing budgetary concerns.
Over the years, the Corps has whittled away at the funding for the Missouri RIver Recovery Program, slowly slashing the program's annual budget from more than $80 million a decade ago to slightly over $8 million budgeted for next year........

Added Sunday Mississippi River Near Destrehan, Louisiana NTSB Released Cause Of Fatal Tow Collision.........
The National Transportation Safety Board released a Marine Accident Brief that outlines the cause of the January 26, 2020 collision and subsequent sinking of a tow vessel with four crew members aboard. Three of them were never found.
The collision occurred along the Lower Mississippi River near Destrehan, Louisiana between the tow vessels Cooperative Spirit and RC Creppel, which capsized and sank. Only one crew member was rescued.
The accident caused the breakaway of 42 barges from both tows, the release of sulfuric acid vapors in the atmosphere and a spill of approximately 8,000 gallons of diesel fuel in the Mississippi River.
The Marine Accident Brief says that insufficient radio communication and failure to properly communicate tow size via AIS systems contributed to the collision........

For the second consecutive year, Polyform US is working to bring awareness and funding to the fight against breast cancer with their Protect What Matters campaign.
The Protect What Matters campaign is a partnership between Polyform and Land 'N' Sea Distributing and will offer a total of ten Polyform's G- and HTM- Series fenders in pink to honor survivors, those lost to breast cancer and support progress in treatment.
Polyform N.A. recreational sales manager Barb Foss said that last year's campaign far exceeded her expectations, but she wants to build awareness and further support with this year's campaign. This year, 5 percent of all the sales will be donated to Susan G. Komen........

The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center and the Sierra Club Illinois' Three Rivers Project are looking for volunteers to help out with the 15th annual Mississippi Earthtones Festival River Cleanup.
The river cleanup is part of the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center and the Three Rivers Project's conservation work. It will be held from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
Volunteers and staff will be working together to rid the islands and shorelines of the Mississippi River of debris and trash. Those interested in participating in the cleanup should sign up by September 23rd........

The Hangar Dance will be held on September 18, 2021 in our 1945
hangar at St. Charles Smartt Field. The evening will kick off at
6pm with a short air demonstration from our very own 1945 TBM-3E
Avenger and B-25J Mitchell, along with appearances from
additional warbirds from the community (including a T6, T28,
C-45, and C-47). Following the air demonstration, we’ll invite
you to peruse our WWII-era motor pool, chat with re-enactors,
and visit our newly renovated and reopened museum. At 7pm, we’ll
kick off a 1940’s era night of dinner and swing dancing
featuring live band Sentimental Journey! There will also be a
silent auction and 50/50 raffle, plus food and drinks will be
available.

Tennessee River Near Gilbertsville, Kentucky Excavation Work Passes Halfway Mark On Lock Addition Project........
Within the next several days, crews are expecting to start pumping water out from behind a cofferdam as work progresses on the Kentucky Lock Addition Project along the Tennessee RIver near Gilbertsville, Kentucky.
The cofferdam was finished in March, and according to Zach Langel, project manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, the excavation work on the new 110 by 1,200 foot lock chamber is past the halfway point. The excavation contract is expected to be completed in mid 2022.
The lock addition is being constructed landward and next to the existing 110 by 600 foot lock. The Corps is set to award the $250 million contract for the downstream lock monoliths within the next 60 days. Langel is forecasting a project completion date sometime in 2029........

Lake Of The Ozarks Sewer Operator That Discharged Sewage Into The Lake Pleads Guilty........
On Thursday, Brian Scheiter, a sewer operator at a Lake of the Ozarks village that deliberately released untreated sewage into the Lake pled guilty to two misdemeanors in Federal Court.
Scheiter pled guilty to violating the federal Clean Water Act via an illegal discharge and failing to report it. he faces up to a year in prison and a fine of up to $25,000 on the first count, and six months in prison and up to $10,000 on the second.
The plea agreement states that negligently discharged a pollutant, namely sewage water, from a point source into the water of the United States, namely the Lake of the Ozarks........

Boat Manufacturer MasterCraft Posts Record Setting 4th Quarter........
During the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021, MasterCraft Boat Holdings reported an increase in net sales of 204 percent to $155.5 million, helping the company to have it's most profitable year ever.
The fourth quarter increase was the result of record-setting sales volume and low dealer incentives, in addition to the comparison to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2020, which was affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.
MasterCraft chairman and CEO Fred Brightbill said that the company's record setting performance was driven by year-over-year unit increases in all segments, including the most wholesale units ever sold by the company during a fourth quarter........

Mississippi River Near West Alton, Missouri MoDOT Working To Raise Frequently Flooding Part Of U.S. 67........
Crews have begun working on a $4.1 million project to raise approximately one mile of the southbound U.S. 67 about a mile south of the Clark Bridge in West Alton, Missouri.
The section of U.S. 67 crews are raising contains two of the three most frequently flooded parts of the highway. The elevation work will not prevent lower U.S. 67 from flooding as it did in 2019, however, it will stop lesser floods from shutting down the southbound lanes.
The project will also include making improvements to the intersection of U.S. 67 and Riverlands Way. It will not include significant improvements for pedestrians or cyclists at this time........

ALTON, IL -- The Sierra Club Illinois’ Three Rivers Project and
the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC)
are calling for volunteers to support the 15th annual
Mississippi Earthtones Festival River Clean-up. The river
clean-up, which will be held from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on
Saturday, September 25, is part of the Three Rivers Project and
the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center’s
ongoing conservation work. Volunteers and staff will work
together to rid the islands and shorelines of the beautiful
Mississippi River of trash and debris. Interested community
members should
sign up to volunteer at the clean-up by September 23.

Mississippi River Near New Orleans, Louisiana Lower Mississippi River Mostly Shut Down After Hurricane Ida........
Grain companies with terminals located along the Lower Mississippi River are considering shifting more of their committed soybean and grain shipments to the ports in the Pacific Northwest while damage assessments and repair work begins following hurricane Ida.
Ida brought severe wind damage to the New Orleans region. The timeline for resuming shipping operations is not known due to the uncertainty of when electricity will be restored. Officials in some Louisiana parishes report that some towns along the coast are not inhabitable.
On Thursday, power provider Entergy reported that they had restored power to around 167,000 customers, but that leaves approximately 791,000 people without power. The company stated that they were focusing on power for hospitals and key infrastructure such as wastewater facilities........

Lake Of The Ozarks Bagnell Dam Closing To Traffic For Three Months........
The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that the Bagnell Dam will be closed for three months for a rehabilitation project beginning on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
The existing Bagnell Dam Bridge was constructed in 1929 and MoDOT says that rehabilitation is necessary to extend the life and usability of the bridge. The project will involve making repairs to the bridge deck, expansion joints, sidewalks and barrier walls.
Back in June, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the project to Concrete Strategies, LLC., who submitted the low bid of $1,611,862........

Boat Propulsion Manufacturer Brunswick Acquired Battery Manufacturer........
Brunswick Corporation recently acquired Rock Hill, South Carolina-based RELiON Battery, a manufacturer of lithium battery and related products that serves the marine and RV segments, as well as industrial applications.
The company offers a comprehensive line of 12, 24, 36 and 48 volt battery systems. The acquisition gives Brunswick an advantage in capacity and capabilities in the lithium battery market and will directly benefit their ACES (autonomy, connectivity, electrification and shared access) strategy.
RELiON will be added to Brunswick's Advanced Systems Group, headed up president Brett Dibkey, who states that the acquisition complements Brunswick's existing portfolio of industry leading advanced battery and power management brands such as Mastervolt, ProMariner and Blue Sea Systems........

Boat Manufacturer BRP Reports Record Second Quarter.........
Valcourt, Quebec-based Bombardier Recreational Products announced that thanks to the continuing outdoor recreation boom, they are reporting a record second quarter of Fiscal 2022.
BRP saw a $531.9 million increase in revenue to $1.51 billion, a 54 percent increase in revenue for the second quarter of Fiscal Year 2022, which ended on July 31.
Jose' Boisjoli, BRP president and CEO says that these results were driven by continued strong demand, market share gains and the company's ability to work through a challenging supply chain environment........

River Road Trips Take A Ride Along The Meeting Of The Great Rivers National Scenic Byway........
Illinois boasts seven designated National Scenic Byways, and the Riverbend region is home to one of them: The 33 mile long Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway.
The Meeting of the Great Rivers National Scenic Byway marks the meeting of three major waterways, the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois Rivers. The byway starts in Hartford and follows Illinois Route 3, Route 143 and Route 100, ending at Pere Marquette State Park.
In addition to the rivers, there are plenty of landmarks and attractions to check out along the way, including the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower, the Melvin Price Locks and Dam, the bluff-side Piasa Bird painting and much more........

This weekend, the 2nd Annual Smooth Jazz on the River Festival will be returning to the Cairo, Illinois riverfront at the Fort Defiance Park. The event is presented by the Harold S. Jones Fine Arts Center and will feature several artists.
Harold Jones says that there are a lot of people that enjoy listening to smooth jazz and like listening to songs they know performed in a jazzy way. Jones adds that he wanted to introduce this type of music to the people in the tri-state region.
The event is free of charge and open to the general public and will include artists such as Patrick Yandall, JLJ Quartet, New Arts Jazztet, Julia Watkins, Bootheel Divas and many more.........

RIB manufacturer Zodiac recently called upon German e-mobility leader Torqeedo to provide power for their new eOPEN lineup of 100 percent electric rigid inflatable boats.
The initial four and six seat eOPEN offerings are slated to be introduced during next week's Cannes Yachting Festival, which is scheduled for September 7 - 12, 2021.

Mississippi River Near St. Louis, Missouri Repairs Prompt Lane Restrictions On 2 Mississippi River Bridges.........
Transportation officials have announced that on Thursday, crews would be performing repair work on two St. Louis area Mississippi River bridges, resulting in lane closures.
The Missouri Department of Transportation says that one westbound lane of the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge near the ramps to Tucker and Interstate 70 from 9 am to 5 pm Thursday.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says that one eastbound lane of the Interstate 270 Bridge near Granite City will be shut down for bridge deck repairs. IDOT says that all entrance and exit ramps will remain open during the closure.........

The City of Grafton has partnered up with the American Legion Post No. 648 to honor he victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a riverfront ceremony. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the attacks
The ceremony will be held at the large American Flag near the Grafton Boat ramp. The Jersey Community High School Band's performance will begin the memorial ceremony.
Grafton Mayor Mike Morrow says that the moments of silence will take place at the precise tomes that the attacks occurred. The event will begin at 8:30 am on September 11........

Mississippi River Near New Orleans, Louisiana 22 Barges Broke Free As Hurricane Ida Made Landfall........
St. Bernard Parish officials report that 22 barges broke free along the Mississippi River on Sunday as Hurricane Ida tore into Louisiana. The barges were adrift in conditions too bad to try to secure them. The barges broke free at the 87 Mile Marker and as of Sunday night, were still in the river.
A video shared on Facebook showed a loose barge striking a boat during the storm. Filmed by a person aboard the boat. the video shows the barge sideways, moving quickly towards the boat prior to striking it and continuing downstream.
Another wayward barge struck the Kerner Swing Bridge in Lafitte, south of New Orleans, causing officials to advise motorists not to drive over the bridge, as they did not know if the span was safe........

Lake Of The Ozarks New Records Set During The 2021 Shootout........
This past weekend, the Lake of the Ozarks hosted the 33rd Annual Shootout, where boats of all types vied for the fastest times down the 3/4 mile race course in their respective categories.
Taking the Top Gun trophy for the seventh year in a row, the 51 foot Mystic catamaran, American Ethanol, ran a best speed of 193 MPH. That is 9 MPH slower than the boat's fastest speed since the course was shortened in 2017.
A record-setting 95 boats ran during the Shootout this year, making some 253 runs. The fastest V-bottom was Jim Shultz's 51 foot Outerlimits, Factory Billet, which ran 161 MPH. Brad Rowland made the fastest run with a pontoon boat with his triple 300 HP Mercury equipped South Bay, Tooned In II, which ran 113 MPH........

Benton, IL Rend Lake Will Remain Closed For Invasive Species Eradication........
On Tuesday, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said that some public use areas of Rend Lake will remain closed for the safety of their visitors while they deal with invasive species.
According to the Corps, Rend Lake has had Phragmites Australis that has become problematic along roadways, ditches and within wetlands areas. Also known as Common Reed, the species interferes with wetlands grass, becoming aggressive and out competing native plants and displacing wildlife.
The Corps says that the closure will be extended through Thursday, September 2nd as they continue to treat the Phragmites in several locations around Rend Lake........
