Lake Of The Ozarks 2022 Polar Plunge Set New Fundraising Record........
On Saturday, February 28, hundreds of participants jumped into the frigid Lake of the Ozarks to raise funds for Special Olympics Missouri. This year's event ended up setting a new fundraising record.
The 2022 Lake of the Ozarks Polar Plunge raised $238,000, a huge increase over last year's $171,000. This contribution was made in large part due to the efforts of 17 Super Plungers who raised $130,000 of that total.
This year's Polar Plunge marked the 27th year for the event, which has become a charity tradition since 1995. That first event only logged 25 plungers. All of the Polar Plunge proceeds benefit Special Olympics Missouri, who provide year-round spots training and athletic competition for kids and adults with intellectual disabilities........

Upcoming Events Saturday, April 16, 2022 Lake Of The Ozarks MDC Offering Free Paddlefish Snagging Clinic At The Lake........
On Saturday, April 16, the Missouri Department of Conservation will be offering a free paddlefish snagging clinic in Warsaw, Missouri. There will be two sessions offered, however, space will be limited.
The clinic is intended to educate newcomers about paddlefish snagging and allow them the opportunity to get some first-hand experience. Participants will learn about snagging equipment and techniques and then will hit the lake for a few hours to try out their new skills.
The first session will run from 8 am to 1 pm, and the second session will be from 10:30 am to 3 pm. Participants are encouraged to register in groups of two to four. This program is offered to first time participants only. The MDC will provide boats and equipment........

Boat Gear Manufacturer Navico Expanding Their Production Facility........
Electronics manufacturer Navico recently announced plans for expanding their manufacturing facility in Ensenada, Mexico by 35 percent and will be adding another building.
Knut Frostad, president of Navico says that the company continues to build incredible momentum in the business and they believe now is the time to expand capacity and increase production.
This investment will include the construction of a 50,500 square foot building, 47,200 square feet of which will be dedicated to manufacturing. The expansion is the first since Brunswick acquired the company back in October........

NEW BRIDGES
Ohio River Near Cincinnati, Ohio Ohio, Kentucky Teaming Up To Request Federal Funds For A New Bridge........
The governors of Ohio and Kentucky are teaming up to request up to $2 billion in federal funding for the construction of a new Ohio River bridge between Cincinnati, Ohio and Covington, Kentucky.
Late last month, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear held a news conference where they announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to work together on the project, which is seeking funds to construct a companion bridge west of the existing Brent Spence Bridge.
The funding would be part of the bipartisan federal infrastructure bill, which allocates at least $39 billion for bridge projects. The MOU also directs transportation officials in both states to begin construction preparations.........

Mississippi River At Cassville, Wisconsin Legislators Push For A Mississippi River Bridge ........
Two legislators with the Wisconsin General Assembly have introduced bills that would provide $1 million to study costs and benefits of constructing a bridge spanning the Mississippi River at Cassville, Wisconsin.
Residents of Cassville have been calling for a bridge there for about 90 years. Currently they have to take the slow Cassville Ferry or drive to Prairie du Chien or Dubuque, Iowa to cross the river. Reportedly, that area is the longest section of the Upper Mississippi River without a bridge.
An Iowa state representative, whose cooperation would be necessary for a bridge construction project, has stated that there are no plans to move forward with the project on the Iowa side........

The Grafton Ferry is opening for the season on April 22, 2022 !
Hours are Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Will not be open on Thursday this year, just not enough traffic.
The ferry carries passengers from St. Charles, Mo., to
Grafton. The Illinois side of the landing is located near
the Grafton Lighthouse and public boat ramp off Market

Mississippi River At Winfield, Missouri Corps Discusses 1,200 Foot Lock Chamber Construction At L&D No.25........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' project team responsible for the construction project at Lock and Dam No. 25 at Winfield, Missouri is proceeding, while reconfiguring their plans now that the project is fully funded.
On March 2nd, Mike Feldman, P.E., project manager for Lock and Dam No.25 gave a presentation to potential contractors during a Corps Industry Day. Feldman said that the Corps had a plan that would take the project to about 95 percent completion, but the plans has assumed funding constraints.
Lock and Dam NO.25 is considered to be the "lynchpin" of seven locks and dams included in the Navigational and Ecosystem Sustainability Program. The completion of this project has long been a top priority of the inland waterways industry, but until recently, had only received start-up funding........

Mississippi River Near Cape Girardeau, Missouri Recent Rainfall Push Mississippi River Levels Up........
Following the heavy rainfall last weekend, the level of the Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau, Missouri saw a quick rise. The National Weather Service reports that the Mississippi River rose from about 17 feet Sunday evening to 21.5 feet by Tuesday morning.
Forecasters are expecting the Mississippi River to rise to more than 24 feet at Cape Girardeau by this weekend. The is well below the city's flood stage of 32 feet........

Starting in the final week of April, there are going to be more visits than ever before by the riverboat fleets of American Cruise Lines and American Queen Voyages.
Mary Hammond, the executive director of Paducah Convention & Visitors Bureau says that Paducah is pleased that this steamboat season will feature more scheduled stops than ever before.
Hammond added that passengers from around the world visit Paducah via America's inland waterways, where they are free to immerse themselves in Paducah's unmatched hospitality and unique creative culture........

Mississippi River At Quincy, Illinois The Quincy Memorial Bridge Is Closing Monday........
The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that starting Monday, March 14th, the Quincy Memorial Bridge carrying eastbound U.S. 24 will be closing, weather permitting, to allow crews to continue repair work.
During the closure, two way traffic will be carried on the Bayview Bridge (westbound U.S. 24) during the closure. The Bayview Bridge will be limited to vehicles with a maximum width of 14 feet during the Memorial Bridge's closure, which is expected to run into mid-summer.
The remaining work on the Quincy Memorial Bridge will include road surface improvements, painting, structural steel repairs in addition to other miscellaneous repair work........

The Grafton Ferry is opening for the season on April 22, 2022 !
Hours are Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Will not be open on Thursday this year, just not enough traffic.
The ferry carries passengers from St. Charles, Mo., to
Grafton. The Illinois side of the landing is located near
the Grafton Lighthouse and public boat ramp off Market
Street. The landing on the Missouri side is at Grafton Ferry
Road, which is just off of Highway 94.

I had dinner last Friday evening with Carl and Mary at the State Street Market in Alton, IL. The service and the drinks were worthy of the Captains Table ....And the food was top class.
Next time you are in the area by land yacht or boat make sure you throw out an anchor there and check them out.

Mississippi River Flood Outlook Near-Normal Flood Risk Expected In Most Of The Mississippi Basin........
Officials with the National Water Center state that the flood risk for the majority of the Mississippi River basin should be at or near normal averages over the next 90 days, with the exception of the Ohio River and the middle Tennessee River Valleys, where the risk is elevated.
These forecasts and assessments were released in the Spring Hydrologic Outlook for the Greater Mississippi River Basin during a webinar held on February 24. There were presentations on all of the sub-basins that drain into the Mississippi River.
Katie Ertell, a hydrologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says that over the winter, temperatures have been colder than normal in the Northern Plains and warmer than normal in the rest of the basin. She notes that there is more water to release during the spring warm-up than last year at this time.
The soil moisture within the Ohio and Tennessee River Valleys is elevated and river flows are considerably above normal in the Middle Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys. The forecast is for minor to moderate flooding across the eastern portions of the Mississippi River Valley, which is normal this time of year........

Boating Legislation Bill To Prevent Invasive Species Spread Advances........
The bipartisan Stop the Spread of Invasive Mussels Act was introduced last October, and recently advanced out of the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The provisions of this bill are included in the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2022.
The legislation, introduced by congressional representatives John Garamendi, D-Calif. and Mark Amodei, R-Nev., would authorize federal land management agencies to act to prevent the spread of invasive species in the nation's waterways, lakes, reservoirs and aqueducts.
Garamendi says that invasive species crowd out native wildlife and cause billions of dollars in damages to the nation's critical water infrastructure. Mississippi River Cruising Viking's First Mississippi River Boat Meets Louisiana Waters........
Viking's eagerly anticipated Mississippi River program has reached a major milestone, as the new 386 passenger Viking Mississippi touched water for the first time in Louisiana. The traditional float-out was held at the Edison Chouest Offshore's LaShip shipyard in Houma, Louisiana.
The Viking Mississippi is slated to debut in June 2022 and will sail on the Lower and Upper Mississippi River, cruising between New Orleans, Louisiana and St. Paul, Minnesota.
Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking said that it was a proud moment that this new vessel has met an American waterway for the first time. He adds that they are looking forward to welcoming guests on board this summer........

Saginaw Bay Near McKinley Township, Michigan Anglers Safe After Ice Fishing Shanty Blown Across The Bay........
Officials report that three anglers are safe after their homemade ice-fishing shanty was blown approximately a mile across Saginaw Bay near McKinley Township, Michigan by winds approaching 50 Miles Per Hour.
At around 8 am Sunday, a passerby onshore called Huron County Dispatchers after seeing someone struggling with the shanty as it was being blown across the ice.
When Deputies arrives, the shanty, which was occupied by three men was about 1.5 miles offshore. Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson said that the Fire Department deployed an air boat for a rescue, but the three men were able to make it to shore on their own........

The Grafton Ferry is opening for the season on April 22, 2022 !
Hours are Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Will not be open on Thursday this year, just not enough traffic.

Mississippi River At Alton, Illinois Catfish Anglers Pleased With Tournament........
On Saturday, 67 teams from nine different states participated in the season opener of the Twisted Cat Fishing Tournament in Alton, Illinois. There are typically seven or eight tournaments in the Twisted Cat series, running from as far north as Fort Madison, Iowa and as far south as Helena, Arkansas.
45 boats returned to the Alton Amphitheater for the event weigh in, and after the fish were weighed, all were returned to the Mississippi River. All of the fish weighed were blue catfish, except for one small flathead.
Eight teams had catches with the combined weight of over 100 pounds between the three fish. The winning team of Jake Nalley and Scott Linton ended up with a combined weight of 188.80 pounds, including a 90.89 pound blue catfish, which claimed the honor of the biggest catch of the day........

Mississippi River At Baton Rouge, Louisiana New Mississippi River Bridge Will Cost At Least $2 Billion........
Shawn Wilson, Louisiana's Department of Transportation and Development Secretary says that the cost of building a new Mississippi River bridge at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Wilson says that the cost of the new bridge will be at least $2 billion. The bridge will cost $1.2 billion, but connectors to the new span will be required at a cost of about $800 million.
Wilson notes that the cost of the Mississippi River Bridge project does factor in the rate of inflation, which means that the span's price tag will continue to increase over time........

The Grafton Ferry is opening for the season on April 22, 2022 !
Hours are Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Will not be open on Thursday this year, just not enough traffic.
The ferry carries passengers from St. Charles, Mo., to
Grafton. The Illinois side of the landing is located near
the Grafton Lighthouse and public boat ramp off Market
Street. The landing on the Missouri side is at Grafton Ferry
Road, which is just off of Highway 94.

Added Sunday Upper Missouri River Basin Missouri River Runoff Lower Than Expected........
On Thursday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that runoff into the Upper Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa will be even lower than originally forecasted.
The runoff into the Missouri River Basin was lower than average during February, prompting the Corps to revise their forecast downward. The forecast, already lower than the normal 25.8 million acre-feet of water at 21.7 MAF has been reduced to 20.4 MAF, or 79 percent of normal.
John Remus, chief of the Corps' Missouri River Basin Water Management Division says that the runoff was less than predicted, and they are expecting the lower than average runoff to continue in the coming months........

Added Sunday Kaskaskia River Infrastructure Port District To Receive Millions In Funding........
The Kaskaskia Regional Watershed expects to receive more than $28 million in funding through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2022. Ed Wellbacher, general manager for Kaskaskia Regional Port District says that these funds are on top of their usual budget.
Carlyle Lake received $9,350,000, Lake Shelbyville received $8,825, 000 and the Jerry F. Costello Lock received $10,395,000, which brings the watershed total to $28,570,000.
Wellbacher advised stakeholders that the nearly $10.4 million that the Corps intends to allocate to the Jerry F. Costello Lock and Dam will be primarily to address what he referred to as a maintenance backlog........

Added Sunday Kentucky Lake In Marshall County, Kentucky LL&W Removed 1.2 Million Pounds Of Debris From The Lake........
Last December, the largest tornado in Kentucky history ripped through the Cambridge Shores community located in a cove of Kentucky Lake, killing two, leveling houses and uprooting trees.
A lot of debris ended up in Kentucky Lake, so the Tennessee Valley Authority partnered up with the non-profit Living Lands & Waters to assist with the cleanup.
It was believed to be a quick job, however, over the course of two months, crews have removed 1.2 million pounds of debris, ranging from boat hulls and docks to children's toys........

Added Sunday Ohio River Near Evansville, Indiana Two Rescued From Car That Plunged Into The River........
On Thursday night, two people were rescued from the Ohio River near Evansville, Indiana after the car they were in plunged into the river. A passing CSX train spotted the sinking car.
By the time that Evansville first responders arrived on the scene, the car had slipped below the river's surface. One of the passengers was able to make it safely to shore on their own.
A second passenger was found clinging to a tree branch in the water and had to be rescued by the Evansville Fire Department. Both passengers are expected to be O.K..............

Suzuki Marine recently pulled the wraps off of their latest outboard engine, the DF250SS. The 250 HP, 4 stroke engine is the flagship of Suzuki's Sport Series high-performance outboards.
The V6 outboard features an improved intake system, a "thrust mount" component to reduce vibration and is available with a new Watergrip propeller. The engine is available in ,matte black or white.
The DF250SS is the first Sport Series outboard to be compatible with Suzuki's Precision Control electronic shift, which also integrates with the Digital Pro-Pedal Foot Throttle. This outboard is available with 20 or 25 inch shaft lengths........

Lake Of The Ozarks The Lake Has Hit It's Annual Low Water Level........
The water level of the Lake of the Ozarks recently arrived at 654 feet of elevation, meaning that the annual winter water level drawdown is in full effect. Each year, Amren lowers the level of the lake by about six feet in the winter time to prepare for spring rainfall which can fill the lake quickly.
Over the winter months, the utility lowers the lake level towards the 654 foot of elevation goal, which is some of the lowest levels of the year. the "low level limit" of the lake is 651 feet and in recent years, the lake level has dropped to near that level.
The operators of the Bagnell dam are always working with rainfall, or lack thereof, in addition to the outflows from the Truman Dam, which releases directly into the Lake of the Ozarks........

Mississippi River At Moline, Illinois I-74 Bike Path Over The Mississippi River Opening Soon........
The opening of the new bike and pedestrian path along the Interstate 74 Bridge has been delayed by winter maintenance as well as a supply issue with the materials needed to complete the bike and pedestrian path.
According to George Ryan, the I-74 corridor manager, the Iowa Department of Transportation is working with vendors and contractors to get the materials needed to complete the path as quickly as possible.
When completed, Moline and Bettendorf will split the costs and work of maintaining the path. The bike and pedestrian path will feature a glass-bottomed scenic overlook, seating and artistic sculptures........

Grafton Ferry
The Grafton Ferry is opening for the season on April 22, 2022 !
Hours are Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 8am-10pm and Sunday 8am to 8pm. Will not be open on Thursday this year, just not enough traffic.
The ferry carries passengers from St. Charles, Mo., to
Grafton. The Illinois side of the landing is located near
the Grafton Lighthouse and public boat ramp off Market
Street. The landing on the Missouri side is at Grafton Ferry
Road, which is just off of Highway 94.

Upcoming Events Saturday, March 5, 2022 Mississippi River At Alton, Illinois Catfish Tournament Set For Saturday........
The Twisted Catfish Outdoors Fishing Season kick-off is set for Saturday, March 5th at Alton, Illinois. The Tournament will be based at the Alton Liberty Bank Amphitheater and will run from 7 am to 3 pm.
Participants will meet at the Alton Amphitheater at 5 am for a pre-tournament live well inspection prior to heading out to several locations to enter the water. All boats will return to the amphitheater by 3:30 for the weigh-in.
As of Monday,50 teams had registered to participate in the first series tournament of 2022. Alex Nagy Twisted Catfish says that he expects that the full field of 75 boats will be participating in the tournament........

Help Wanted Mark Twain Lake Corps Offering Summer Student Intern Positions........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake has announced that they are recruiting for their Student Trainee Intern positions (Pathway Interns, GS-02/02) for the 2022 recreational season. Applications will be accepted through Sunday, March 13.
There are multiple positions available to be filled in the departments of Visitor Assistance, Recreation, Interpretive Services and Outreach & Environmental Stewardship Departments at Mark Twain Lake for summer, 2022.
Individuals hired for these positions will be required to report for duty immediately after the completion of the spring 2022 semester and continue until the fall 2022 semester begins........

Mississippi River At New Orleans, Louisiana Rising River Levels Halt Construction, Prompt Levee Inspections........
Officials report that heavy rainfall is pushing the Mississippi River near New Orleans, Louisiana to rise to 11.4 feet. This means construction work near the levees, while federal officials inspect the levees.
On Thursday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that they intend to begin twice weekly inspections of the levees while the river levels remain high and any sub-surface work within 1,500 feet of the levees should be stopped while the inspections are underway.
These projects include the installation of swimming pools in neighborhoods that are adjacent to levees, foundation installations for new homes or any utility work that requires crews to dig underground........

Lake Of The Ozarks Part Shortage Issues Plague Boat Shops, Dealers........
High demand and supply chain issued are affecting boat dealers and boat repair shops around the Lake of the Ozarks region. Businesses are reporting issues with getting parts, furniture and fishing supplies.
Steve Brehm, owner of Steve's Lil Boat Shop in Stockton, Missouri, says that the past two years have been challenging. He said that supply issues have cost approximately 1/3 of his sales.
Josie Howard, manager of Mutton Creek Marina says that mechanical parts are beyond difficult to acquire. Howard adds that parts availability, from simple filters to engine overhaul parts are among the main problems........

Come on out and check out the elements that determine what makes a river great during the March 15 Neighbor Nights event presented by media specialist Jen Young.
Neighbor Nights events are a collaboration between the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center and Green Drinks Kankakee Meet-Up group. Green Drinks is an international organization that is made up from local groups that meet each month to discuss sustainable and environmental issues.
This presentation will be held on Tuesday, March 15 at 6:30 pm. The event will also be streamed via Zoom. Young says that the presentation will focus on some of the interesting plants and animals found in the Mississippi River........

Ohio River Journeys Progressive Cancer Patient Planning Final Trip Down The Ohio River........
Joseph Bonanno of Hamilton, Ohio is living out his final dream by boating down the Ohio River and traveling around the country. Hamilton has progressive colon cancer and plans to spend the next five months, or however long he's given, on the water.
Last summer, Bonanno was operating a breakfast food truck, the Y Not Cafe, in order to earn the funds necessary for the trip. He purchased a 24 foot pontoon boat, outfitted it with a 8 foot be 10 foot cabin with a wood stove, shower, solar power and a commode.
Bonanno intends to travel down the Ohio River, along the Mississippi River and end up in the Gulf of Mexico. He says that the hardest part of the trip will be leaving his daughter behind. He says that he wants her to remember him at his best.......

Mississippi River At Memphis, Tennessee I-40 Bridge Getting First Inspection Since Last Year's Emergency Repairs........
Earlier this week, crews with the Arkansas Department of Transportation began extensive inspections of the Interstate 40 bridge spanning the Mississippi River at Memphis, Tennessee.
This inspection is the first official inspection of the span since emergency repairs were carried out last summer. This inspection is a "hands on" inspection and will be performed by ARDOT consultant Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergdoff, who are leading bridge experts.
ARDOT public information officer, Dave Parker says that they will be visiting the bridge and examining it for fractures while HNTB is performing the inspections. He adds that the span is a fracture-critical bridge, in that if one of the five bridge elements fails, the span collapses........

Lake Of The Ozarks LOTO Annual Shoreline Cleanup Beginning........
This month, hundreds of Lake of the Ozarks-area residents are gearing up to participate in the annual Lake of the Ozarks Adopt-the-Shoreline spring cleanup. Ameren Missouri will be providing trash bags and disposal services.
Long-time volunteer Sandy Triplett says that they view the cleanup as a form of "cleaning up the front yard". She adds that the event increases the camaraderie between homeowners and the local Fire Department staff, who also pitch in to help.
The Adopt-the-Shoreline program allows groups and residents to "adopt" parts of the Lake of the Ozarks shoreline for trash removal. Since 1991, over 13,000 volunteers removed over 5 million pounds of trash........

On Tuesday, the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County and producer Informa Markets confirmed that the Palm Beach International Boat Show will be held March 24 - 27.
Alyssa Freeman, executive director of the Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County says the they are very excited for the 40th anniversary of the boat show. She added that they are also proud of the economic impact the event has in Palm Beach County.
The show will be held along Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach and will feature around 170 boats from 8 foot inflatables to superyachts. Andrew Doole, president of U.S. Boat Shows with Informa Markets says that fan-favorite exhibits will return, such as the AquaZone, Kids Fishing Clinics by Hook the Future and the Winward VIP Club........

Mississippi River Cruising This Will Be A Big Year For River Cruises........
Several cruise vessels are going to be cruising the Mississippi River and visiting the Riverbend region this year. The Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau is announcing a year's worth of cruises that could potentially bring thousands of tourists to the region.
Cory Jobe, President and CEO of the Great Rivers & Routes Tourism Bureau says that it is looking to be one of the busiest years on record for the industry in the Riverbend region.
Jobe adds that the GRRTB is working with Alton City Hall to guarantee that the visits are trouble-free. More information will be released in the coming weeks........

Hop On A Plane For A Mini-Vacation
Boat Manufacturer Forest River Introducing A Pontoon Designed By Jimmy Buffett........
Billionaire investor Warren Buffet concluded his annual Berkshire-Hathaway shareholder letter with a sales pitch for a boat designed by Jimmy Buffett and manufactured by Berkshire subsidiary Forest River.
The pontoon boat will make it's debut on April 29 at the Berkshire Bazaar of Bargains, which is part of the annual Berkshire-Hathaway shareholder's meeting. Warren Buffet said that he plans on purchasing one of the boats for personal use. He did not reveal the price of the boat.
While Buffet referred to Jimmy Buffett as "cousin", they are not related. The pair are friends, however, and refer to each other as "Uncle Warren" and "Cousin Jimmy". CNBC reports that Warren has given Jimmy advise on growing his "Margaritaville" restaurant chain........

Missouri River Shipping Potential Missouri River Port Tenant Business Plan........
In 2018, Sal Litrico, CEO of a Miami shipping company headed to Jefferson City, Missouri to discuss what a potential Missouri River Port would need to include in order to be attractive to customers.
Litrico was recently back in Jefferson City as his company is proceeding with their plans for transporting cargo via container ships along the Mississippi River, and eventually along the Missouri River.
Monday evening, Litrico made a presentation to the Heartland Port Authority discussing his company's plans for the construction of a main facility in New Orleans, with their first terminal in Memphis.
They have enough cargo commitments for the company to construct four vessels that will run between New Orleans and Memphis, and they intend to be in service by April 2024.
Jefferson City could be the next stop depending how the Heartland Port develops..

Duck Boat News Duck Boats May Be Returning To Branson........
Almost four years after a tragedy aboard a duck boat claimed the lives of 17 people on Table Rock Lake, duck boat rides may be returning to Branson, Missouri.
Former Branson Mayor Karen Best says that she hopes that the public will keep an open mind as they move forward with the new duck boats. She adds that the duck boats are fixtures in Branson, and if they're going to be returning to the lake and they're safe, she is all for it.
The new Branson Duck Tours website states that their ducks are Hydra-Terra amphibious vehicles. These vessels have Coast Guard approved aluminum hulls filled with urethane floatation foam that makes the vessels "unsinkable"........

Upcoming Events Saturday, March 12, 2022 Kaskaskia River At Modoc, Illinois Rescheduled Kaskaskia Eagle Fest Set For March 12th........
The rescheduled 2022 Eagle Fest will be held on Saturday, March 12 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Jerry F. Costello Lock & Dam in Modoc, Illinois. All of the previously scheduled vendors will be in attendance at the event.
Attendees will be able to watch eagles with spotting scopes and meet some of the raptors from the World Bird Sanctuary at 10 am and 1 pm. THere will also be wildlife presentation given by the Anemology at 11 am and 2 pm. Tours of the Lock and Dam will be available.
Visitors may view an eagle nest with a mated pair of eagles throughout the day from 9 am to 3 pm. Local vendors will be offering food, however, the event will be free to all........

The Three Rivers Project of Sierra Club Illinois is hosting
three Seed Swaps in partnership with local businesses and
organizations:
Old Bakery Beer Company, the
National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC),
and The
Lodge Bar at Lovejoy. Join Three Rivers Project staff, our
partners, and fellow farmers and gardeners while swapping or
sharing your quality seeds, cuttings, and bulbs. These community
events are free to attend and all are welcome. Join us in
celebration of the end of winter and the start of the spring
gardening season!

Lake Of The Ozarks A Ford Excursion Took A Dip In The Lake........
On Friday, February 25, 2022, the latest freeze has caused a Lake of the Ozarks resident to take an unwanted excursion into the frigid water, when his Ford Excursion accidentally slid into the lake.
The man, who is an employee at Dog Days Bar & Grill, parked on the edge of the parking lot. When he exited the still-running vehicle, it began to slide across the parking lot, which had refreezed into a sheet of ice. It ended up rolling over the parking lot barrier, down the embankment and into the lake.
Kevin McCowan, a chef at Dog Days, said that during the whole ordeal, the truck kept running. He adds that after the Excursion was winched back out of the lake, the owner drove it up the walkway and back into the parking lot........

On Saturday, March 12, the 31st Annual St. Patrick's Parade On The Water will be held from 10 am to 4 pm. The events will start at 8 am at Captain Ron's Bar & Grill with an optional breakfast.
Celebration Cruises yachts loaded with St. Patrick's Day revelers will depart at 10 am for a day on the Lake. Decorated boats can join in the parade, and there will be prizes for best costume/decorated boat as well as a raffle drawing........

Historic Riverboats A Look Back At The Anchor Line Steamer, Bluff City........
All of the steamboats owned by the famed Anchor Line were sidewheelers, except one, the Bluff City. The vessel was constructed in 1896 at the Howard Shipyard in Jeffersonville, Indiana at a cost of $36,500.
The Bluff City was 225 feet in length and 42 feet wide. The vessel was powered by four boilers that supplied steam to engines featuring 20 inch cylinders with an 8 foot stroke. The vessel was originally going to be called the Austin Corbin, but just before launching, it was decided to name it the Bluff City.
The Bluff City, with it's trademark anchor suspended between the smokestacks, ran the St. Louis - New Orleans trade. On November 18, 1897, the Bluff City left St. Louis with two barges in tow. A fire broke out in the engine room, and the vessel landed at Chester, Illinois. The 40 passengers and crew safely made it to shore, however, the Bluff City burned to the waterline........

The ferry carries passengers from St. Charles, Mo., to
Grafton. The Illinois side of the landing is located near
the Grafton Lighthouse and public boat ramp off Market
Street. The landing on the Missouri side is at Grafton Ferry
Road, which is just off of Highway 94.

between Potomac Boat Rentals and the national nonprofit BoatUS
Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water makes it easy and
affordable with a series of three-hour courses for beginner and
experienced boat operators alike starting Wednesday, April 6.
SPRINGFIELD,
Va., February 28, 2022 – Boating Writers International, the
professional association for writers, editors, publishers,
bloggers, photographers, videographers and imagers in the
recreational boating and fishing industry, bestowed three awards
on BoatUS Magazine staff and contributors during a presentation
recently held at the group’s annual meeting at the 2022 Discover
Boating Miami International Boat Show.
