Piasa Restoration Project Update from Alton Motor Boat Club February Newsletter.....
FROM BUTCH RISTER REGARDING THE PIASA ISLAND RESTORATION PROJECT The Corps operation in the river has paused due to the ice. Stage one will resume as soon as river is clear. There will be two new islands constructed near Piasa Creek. Plans are to let the bids go for stage 2, which is dredging, later this year.

Mississippi River Research SIU Researchers Looking At Positive Environmental Effects Of Mississippi River Wetlands........
A group of researchers from the Southern Illinois University -- Carbondale are studying the ways that Mississippi River wetlands can help the environment as well as the lives of humans.
Associate Professor in the School of Earth Systems and Sustainability at SIU, Jonathon Remo says that their research is important because they are trying to determine the value of wetlands and floodplains for nutrient processing.
The group of students and professors are looking for ways to reduce the nitrogen pollution in the wetlands along the Mississippi River. According to the team's research, wetlands have been shown to be up to five times more efficient at reducing nitrate pollution than the best land-based nitrogen mitigation strategy........

Creve Coeur Lake "Disturbing" Find After Icy Lake Rescue........
Only 24 hours after the heroes from the Maryland Heights Fire Protection District rescued two teens that had fallen into Creve Coeur Lake, first responders were surprised to see fresh footprints on the ice.
Assistant Fire Chief Steve Rinehart says that he hates to see that, especially after Tuesday's rescue. He adds that it just goes to show that people do go out onto the ice.
Rinehart stated that the footprints on the ice are a bit disturbing, as the footprints are smaller, perhaps those of a child, and they go out 15 or 20 feet from the shoreline. Rinehart reiterated the warning to stay off of the ice........

Mississippi River Infrastructure MRCTI Approves "Transformative" Plans........
Late last month, member mayors of the Mississippi River Cities and Towns Initiative from Louisiana, Mississippi and Illinois met in St. Louis with the Waterways Council Inc. to discuss the transformative potential of the major infrastructure investment and Jobs Act.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently released their spending summary for many of these projects, allowing stakeholders to get a glimpse of the crucial work that will be performed over the next several years to improve the infrastructure along the Mississippi River System.
Greenville, Mississippi Mayor and MRCTI co-chair, Errick Simmons says that they have not seen this level of investment in so many projects within the Mississippi RIver corridor. He states that they are especially pleased with the flood protection work planned for the Yazoo/Mississippi River backwater areas and the cleanup work funded by the Mississippi River & Tributaries Program........

Boat Manufacturer Malibu Boats Reports Record 2nd Quarter Results........
Malibu Boats recently reported the results for the second quarter of fiscal 2022. Net sales increased by a record 34.9 percent to $263.9 million and gross profit increased by a record 28.4 percent to $63.6 million. Net income increased by 39.9 percent to $31 million.
Malibu Boats, which includes the brands Malibu, Axis, Cobalt Pursuit, Cobia, Pathfinder, Maverick and Hewes, posted record unit volume, up 19 percent to 2,073 vessels.
Malibu CEO Jack Springer says that they delivered another tremendous quarter despite the inflationary pressures and supply-chain constraints. He adds that the company's tried-and-true operational agility allowed them to outperform the market........

Missouri River Forecast Corps: 2022 Missouri River Basin Runoff Forecast Is Low........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reports that their updated 2022 runoff forecast for the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa will remain below average.
John Remus, chief of the Corps' Missouri River Basin Water Management Division says that despite January's runoff being slightly above normal, they expect the 2022 runoff will remain below average. He adds that mountain and plains snowpack continue to remain below seasonal averages, and the soil is drier than normal.
During January, the runoff into the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City was just shy of one million acre-feet, which is 111 percent of average. Due to warmer than normal temperatures in the Upper Basin, runoff was near average. Precipitation during January was below normal in the majority of the Upper Basin, with the exception of North Dakota, which saw above normal precipitation........

Creve Coeur Lake Maryland Heights Fire Fighters Rescue Boys From The Lake........
Maryland Heights Firefighters happened to be in the right place at the right time, as they were able to beat "astronomical odds" and rescue two boys that fell into the icy Creve Coeur Lake.
The Maryland Heights Firefighters were wrapping up their annual ice rescue training on Creve Coeur Lake, when a deputy chief spotted two teens, aged 15 and 17, running across the ice and then falling into the frigid lake. The boys went into the water approximately 350 feet from shore.
The Firefighters quickly donned their equipment and sprang into action. The responders were able to pull the boys to safety in about five minutes time. The teens were suffering from hypothermia and were taken to the hospital. They will be OK...........

Sarasota, Florida Chris Craft Broke Ground On 80,000 Square Foot Expansion........
Last week, Sarasota, Florida-based Chris-Craft broke ground on a new 80,000 square foot factory. The new facility will be constructed on a six acre lot adjacent to the company's existing factory.
According to Steve Heese, president of Chris-Craft, they are excited to be expanding their facility, as it will allow Chris-Craft to better serve their dealers, customers and the Sarasota community.
The project will expand the company's footprint to 20 acres and will add 200 employees to the company. The project is expected to be completed in September........

Mississippi River Infrastructure Upgrades In Store For All Mississippi River Locks And Dams........
Back in November, the bipartisan infrastructure investment and jobs act was approved by Congress. It set aside $829.1 million in federal funding intended to expand and improve seven locks at the most congested locations along the Mississippi River.
According to U.S. Representative Cheri Bustos, D-Moline, the Mississippi River Lock and Dam system is a nearly 100 year old engineering marvel that allows the transfer of about 60 percent of the U.S. grain grown in the Midwest.
The Mississippi River locks and dams system was constructed during the Depression era and the system is in bad need of major renovations to make the system more efficient for the farmers that rely on it.......

Lower Mississippi River Corps' Channel Deepening Project Moving Towards Final Phase........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' $238 million project of deepening the Lower Mississippi River Ship Channel to allow vessels with a 50 foot draft has passed a major milestone, as ships began using the new 48 foot draft standard last month. The change in "controlling draft" of the Mississippi River is the first since the standard was set at 47 feet back in the 1980's.
Dredging operations initiated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have been underway since 2020, and has succeeded in lowering the initial 172 miles of the Lower Mississippi River to a minimum depth of 53 feet, allowing vessels with a draft of 50 feet to safely navigate the river up to the Port of South Louisiana.
Back in December, the three pilot associations along the Lower Mississippi River increased the maximum draft recommendations to 48 feet and vessels began using the new standard shortly afterward. The pilot associations will keep lowering the maximum draft recommendations in single-foot increments until the 50 foot target is reached........

Boat Show News Weather Affects New York, Louisville Boat Shows........
Both 2022 Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show, presented by Discover Boating and Progressive Insurance Louisville Boat, RV & Sportshow presented by Discover Boating wrapped up on Sunday, January 30th.
It was an unusual year for the New York Boat Show, as the record East Coast snowstorm forced the show to close on Saturday, which is typically the show's busiest day. Combined with the current market-specific challenges, the show's attendance was down at 10,979, as expected.
Some 36,620 people attended the Louisville Boat, RV and Sportshow, despite winter weather conditions heading into the weekend. These attendance figures are on par with previous year's numbers........

The National Marine Manufacturers Association recently announced that registration for the American Boating Congress has opened. The ABC will be returning to an in-person event and will run from May 11 - 13 in Washington D. C..
The ABC includes discussions with members of Congress and administration officials, in addition to political and policy updates, networking opportunities and evening receptions.
Early pricing is $250 for an individual one-day pass, $450 for an individual three day pass, $400 for a three day group pass and $350 for a first time, three day pass. Single and group three day passes will increase in price by $50 after February 24and another $50 after April 12........

The ferry carries passengers from St. Charles, Mo., to
Grafton. The Illinois side of the landing is located near
the Grafton Lighthouse and public boat ramp off Market
Street. The landing on the Missouri side is at Grafton Ferry
Road, which is just off of Highway 94.

Sad News Rich Vance Has Passed Away.....
Rich Vance, Longtime River Rat has passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Rich has been boating on Pool 26 for over 40 years and has had a camper lot at Westoff's Landing for over 30 years. He loved the river and its wildlife and will be missed by all that knew him.

Meramec River Opinions Flood Water Diversions Create Issues Elsewhere........
There is no real way to argue with flood waters and physics. The forces of gravity and volume conspire to determine where flood water will go. humans may construct barriers the keep water out of one area, but that will force the water to go someplace else.
It makes no difference which developer commissions whatever study that concludes that it is alright to build up a floodplain, the absolute facts of water and physics are inarguable.
South St. Louis County residents near Arnold, Missouri may be about to learn an unpleasant physics lesson as Budrovich Excavating is dumping thousands of tons of dirt onto the Meramec River floodplain, creating an artificial plateau. Downstream residents believe they could be in line for additional flooding issues in the future........

Missouri River Management Dry Conditions Cause Corps To Cancel Spring Pulse For Sturgeon........
On Thursday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that they would be canceling the spring pulse of water out of the Fort Peck Dam along the Missouri River in Montana.
Kevin Low, a hydrologist with the Missouri Basin River Forecast Center of the National Weather Service says that approximately 87 percent of the Missouri River Basin is abnormally dry. He adds that last year was the 17th driest on record.
Low says that the plains and mountain snowpack are below normal, as is the soil moisture. Approximately 40 percent of the snow season remains, however, so there is some time that the snowfall can catch up........

Gulf Of Mexico Dead Zone Illinois Working To Fight Nutrient Runoff.........
Nutrient loss is one of the more serious pollution issues facing the United States, as it is causing a dead zone the size of Rhode Island in the Gulf of Mexico in addition to poisoning local lakes and streams and causing health issues for people and domesticated animals.
This year, Illinois legislators are working to determine the best way to apply state resources to help with nutrient runoff, especially in the agriculture sector and suburban sewage runoff.
Illinois is one of 11 states within the Mississippi River Basin that have sworn to develop strategies to reduce the nutrient loads leaving their borders. Illinois' goal was to reduce nitrates and nitrogen by 15 percent and phosphorous by 25 percent by 2025. The latest information is that nutrient losses have increased by 13 percent and phosphorous losses have increased by 35 percent........

Mississippi River Studies Massive Abandoned Mississippi River Model Could Be Restored........
The Mississippi River Basin Model in Jackson, Mississippi covers 200 acres of land, making it the largest small-scale model in the world. It was billed as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' most ambitious research project.
The model was under construction from 1943 to 1966 and portrays 41 percent of the U.S. and over 15,000 miles of rivers that make up the Mississippi River Basin. Once completed, the model was used for 79 simulations, each lasting at least several weeks.
In the 1970s, computer modeling became commonplace, rendering the model obsolete. By 1990, the Corps gave the model to the City of Jackson, who ended up unable to maintain it. The city ended up abandoning the model.
The group Friends of the Mississippi River Basin Model are currently working to restore the model as well as Buddy Butts Park, where the model is located........

Added Sunday Polar Plunge News The Polar Plunges Raise Funds For Special Olympics Of Missouri........
The Lake St. Louis Polar Plunge was to have taken place on Saturday, however, it has been postponed until March 5th. The Maryland Heights Polar Plunge is on February 19th. .
To participate in one of the Polar Plunges, plungers must raise a minimum of $75. To register for the event, visit somo.org/plunge. This year's Polar Plunge theme is Freezin for a Reason. Plungers are encouraged to dress in costumes.
The Polar Plunges are held as the primary fund raising events to support year-round sports training in Olympic-style sports for Special Olympics of Missouri.........

Added Sunday Lower Mississippi River Valley Corps, USGS Employ 800 Pound "Dart" To Map Levees........
Over the summer, residents in the Lower Mississippi River Valley may have encountered an odd sight: a helicopter flying along the river levees dangling what is best described as an 800 pound red-tailed "dart" underneath.
Technically called a frequency domain system, the dart is a new tool that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering, Vicksburg DIstrict and the U.S. Geological Survey are using to scan and map below the surface of the river levees. It uses LiDAR-like technology to see the different soil layers up to 150 feet below the ground surface.
Kent Parrish, project manager with the Corps' Vicksburg Engineer District says that boring will show the general lay of the land under the surface, but the dart uses technology that is similar to getting an MRI on your brain. The dart can sense different soil composition such as silt, sand or clay, how thick those layers are as well as the data between boring areas........

Added Sunday Upper Missouri River Missouri River Power Generation Was Below Normal For 2021........
Officials report that electric power generation from the Upper Missouri River's six dams was below average during 2021, forcing the federal agency that sells the power to purchase electricity on the open market.
The $18 million in additional costs will likely be passed on to ratepayers on a half-dozen states. The energy production from the dams in the Dakotas, Montana and Nebraska was below normal because of the drought.
The Western Area Power Administration sells power to rural electric cooperatives and other customers in the Dakotas, Montana, Iowa and Nebraska. WAPA states that the added costs will likely be minimal for individual rate payers........

Sad News Rich Vance Has Passed Away.....
Rich Vance, Longtime River Rat has passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Rich has been boating on Pool 26 for over 40 years and has had a camper lot at Westoff's Landing for over 30 years. He loved the river and its wildlife and will be missed by all that knew him.

Mississippi River At Alton, Illinois Officials To Discuss Riverfront Park Variance Next Monday........
On Monday, February 7, 2022, Alton Aldermen will be discussing Riverfront Park variance during their next meeting. If the resolution is approved, it will grant a variance for improvements constructed within the park.
The park improvements were along the projects listed cited in the 2019 State of the City address made by then-Mayor, Brant Walker. In March, 2021, the plan was sent out for bids, with construction work slated to start in June 2021.
The plans for Riverfrotn Park include new pavement, recurbing some sidewalks and gutters, as well as creating a bicycle lane that will connect the existing Madison County Transit with the Sam Vadalabene bike trails........

Mississippi River At Rock Island, Illinois Officials Tour Dewatered Lock No.15........
Local and federal elected representatives from Illinois and Iowa, the media and guests got the opportunity to stand on Mississippi River bedrock and see the inner workings of Upper Mississippi RIver Lock No.15 at Rock Island, Illinois.
Matt Thurman, chief of maintenance section for the U.S> Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District says that dewatering is one of the few times they can see what is going on below the waterline.
Thurman says that after the chamber is dewatered, crews begin the process of inspecting the entire lock chamber to see it's overall condition. He adds that gate and concrete inspections are underway........

River Shipping News Inland Waterways Users Board Reactivated.........
The Inland Waterways Users Board was recently reactivated and a full roster of members have been appointed or reappointed to the board. The IWUB was disbanded with other federal advisory committees while the secretary of defense carried out a "zero-based review" of all federal advisory committees.
The IWUB is an advisory board set up to monitor the Inland Waterways Trust Fund and to make recommendations to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Congress on investment priorities that will use resources from the fund.
When serving on the IWUB, organizations are named, and each organization nominates their own representative. The term of service on the IWUB will run from January 31, 2022 through January 30, 2024........

Boat Show News LOTO Marine Dealers Report Strong Turnout For Overland Park Boat Show........
Last weekend, the Lake of the Ozarks brought boating to Kansas City for the annual Overland Park Boat Show. The event is organized by the Lake of the Ozarks Marine Dealers Association.
According to Mike Kenagy, the LOMDA Director, this year's show didn't break last year's huge attendance number, 2022 saw strong attendance. In total, 7,263 people attended the show, which is similar to 2020's attendance numbers. 2021 saw 8,436 people attend.
Boat dealers are saying that they anticipate having a better time with inventory during 2022, as supplies have recovered somewhat. They are still encouraging boat buyers to act now rather than later as demand has remained strong and the supply chain issues have yet to be resolved.
The next LOMDA boat show will be in St. Charles, Missouri at the St. Charles Convention Center on March 3-6, 2022. Following that show will be the Spring In-Water Boat Show at the Lake of the Ozarks at Dog Days Bar & Grill, from April 22-24........

Lake Of The Ozarks Lake Levels Down 2 Feet As Winter Drawdown Continues........
The level of the Lake of the Ozarks is continuing it's annual drawdown as Ameren lowers the lake in anticipation of spring rainfall and possible snowmelt. The level of the Lake is brought down each winter, typically starting in January.
Full pool for the Lake of the Ozarks is considered to be 660 feet of elevation above sea level, and the lake is lowered to around 654 feet at the low point. Ameren does warn dock owners that the lake level could go as low as 651 feet, dependant upon weather conditions.
As of Friday, February 4, the level of the Lake of the Ozarks was around 657.6 feet and Ameren says that the water levels will fall by another foot in the next two weeks. They are aiming to arrive at 654 feet by the end of February........

Upper Missouri River Basin Below Average Runoff Forecasted For 2022.........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and climatologists are forecasting below-average runoff along the Upper Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa during 2022.
National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Climatologist Doug Kluck says that the conditions are coming into focus in terms of what the Missouri River Basin could be facing this spring and summer.
Kluck says that the majority of the river basin has seen a mild, dry winter. He adds that there are some areas in North Dakota that have seen snow in the last month. Kluck said that the Snow Water Equivalent , or how much water is in the snowpack is below 100 percent........

Illinois River At Peoria, Illinois The Spirit Of Peoria May Be Sold, Relocated........
The Spirit of Peoria riverboat may soon be leaving the Peoria, Illinois riverfront, as the vessel's owner has a potential purchase agreement in place. If signed, the un-named purchaser would likely relocate the boat to a new location.
The Peoria City Council potentially has the power to keep the Spirit of Peoria on the Illinois River. Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says that as part of the agreement the City of Peoria has with the boat, the City Council has 90 days to match any offer that comes forward.
Urich notes that the city also has the ability to waive that right, leaving the owner free to sell the vessel. Peoria officials have not indicated how they will be handling the matter........

Hydrofin tasked themselves with improving the performance and efficiency of the original multi-hull boat, the pontoon boat, with their new Super Fly hydrofoil system. An Innovation Award Winner at the 2021 IBEX boatbuilder trade show, the patented system enhances lift at speed, especially on bi-toon boats.
The Super Fly system was designed by Morrelli & Melvin Design and Engineering for single outboard applications. The system consists of wings that install under the boat along the inner walls of the sponsons.
According to Jason Minor, founder and CEO of Grapevine, Texas-based Hydrofin, the system is designed to carry 40 percent of the vessel's weight while underway. The wings lift the front of the boat between 4 to 8 inches to reduce drag. He envisions the Hydrofin system to be installed as an OEM option or a dealer-installed upgrade........

The Reigns Missouri Rivers 2021 Was A Quiet Year ........
After multiple flooding events along the Missouri, Meramec and Bourbeuse Rivers in recent years, 2021 was a relatively quiet year for flooding.
The National Weather Service reports that the Missouri River at Washington, Missouri rose over it's 20 foot flood stage five times, three of which occurred during a prolonged period of high water.
The NWS also reports that the Bourbeuse River at Union, Missouri had one flood crest, while the Meramec River south of Sullivan, Missouri had three flood crests. There were no reported flood crests for the Meramec River near Pacific, Missouri........

Kaskaskia River Near Red Bud, Illinois Port District Receives Millions In Funding........
Last Wednesday, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker announced almost $220 million in state funding for transit and port projects in downstate Illinois. The grants are awarded through the Rebuild Illinois Program.
$10 million is being allocated to the Kaskaskia Regional Port District No.1 rail loop and outbound conveyors. An additional $2.7 million was allocated for the KRPD's No. 2 Gateway FS Expansion..
According to Anna Guebert, secretary of the Kaskaskia Regional Port District, the $10 million will be used to construct new railroad infrastructure and make needed updates to existing features........

Mississippi River Education SIU Researchers Looking At How Wetlands Reduce Nitrogen Pollution........
Researchers with the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale are working to determine if wetlands along the Mississippi River can help mitigate nitrogen pollution that contributes to the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone.
Led by Liliana Lefticariu, an associate professor of geology in the School of Earth Systems and Sustainability, the team is looking to identify and quantify the processes that reduce nitrogen pollution in several floodplain wetlands along the Middle Mississippi River.
Studies conducted in other parts of the world reveal that wetland areas play a crucial role in reducing nitrogen pollution by sustaining microbes that convert nitrogen pollutants into harmless gas........

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2021 Show Was A Record Success.........
The Marine Industries Association of South Florida, the owner of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, and their partner, Informa Market, proud producer of the FLIBS, recently announced record breaking results of an economic impact study of the 2021 FLIBS.
The study shows that the 62nd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show added $1.79 billion to the Florida economy. The study also reports $899 million in direct sales generated over the 5 days of the boat show and $85.4 million in sales tax benefits to the state of Florida.
Phil Purcell, CEO and President of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida says that the unprecedented economic contributions that the FLIBS has made to the local, regional and state economy........

Mississippi River Management Mississippi River Mayors Meet, Discuss Corps' Spending Plans.........
Mississippi River Mayors and the Waterways Council members recently gathered to discuss the benefits of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' spending plans, with some of the details being released on Monday.
The Mississippi River Cities & Town Initiative hosted the Zoom meeting, during which, officials discussed the USACE infrastructure plan for projects in the Middle America totaling $5.3 billion for the Mississippi River Corridor.
These funds include the Navigation Ecosystem Sustainability Program or NESP. Grafton, Illinois Mayor Mike Morrow says that the city will directly benefit from the expansion lo Lock and Dam No.25........

Mississippi River Near Cape Girardeau, Missouri Upcoming Winter Weather Will Likely Raise River Levels........
The winter storms forecasted for Wednesday and Thursday will likely affect more than just roads and businesses. The National Weather Service says that the storms will likely raise the level of the Mississippi River by a couple of feet.
The river level rise will only be temporary, as the levels are expected to return to 9 feet after the storm passes, which is below the U.S> Army Corps of Engineers' target level.
Last week, the Mississippi River was at a depth of less than 9 feet, which was affecting recreational and commercial uses........

The Hacker Boat Company recently announced the launch of their new Evolution Collection, which is a line of mahogany powerboats available in commuter, center console and Monaco models. The various models can be customized to beet buyer's needs.
Hacker Boat COO Erin Badcock says that the beauty of the build process, working with mahogany and hand-applied fiberglass and epoxies, is that they can customize designs without the effects of altering tooling.
The commuter model is a 37 1/2 foot hardtop power by twin inboards. The center console models range between 30 and 35 feet and may be powered with inboards or outboards. The Monaco is built on a 40 foot hull with an open transom, a cuddy cabin and is inboard powered.........

Mississippi River Near New Orleans, Louisiana Study Underway For Mississippi River Ammonia and Hydrogen Plant........
A feasibility study is currently underway for the development of a green hydrogen and ammonia production plant to be located along the Lower Mississippi River to supply ocean-going vessels with a new fuel source as well as develop a new phase for the region's energy exports.
Canadian resource exploration company AmmPower recently signed a letter of intent to develop the green hydrogen and ammonia facility at the Port of South Louisiana, which is referred to as the largest tonnage port in the western hemisphere.
AmmPower estimates the cost of the potential project will be upwards of $1 billion, and construction and development would take approximately 39 months from the time a construction decision is made........

Referred to as the "No-Yelling School of Fishing", the event has traditionally been a ladies' only event, this one will be a family affair, open to women, men and teens interested in learning local fishing.
The Saturday morning session will include presentations by captains Jon Fetter, Debbie Hanson and Rob Fussnecker, where they will discuss inshore/backcountry fishing, equipment usage and conservation. Illinois River Near Grafton, Illinois Pere Marquette Bad Eagle Days Continue Through February........
Pere Marquette State Park will be continuing Bald Eagle Days throughout February, ending on March 3rd. Pere Marquette will offer programming, instruction on differentiating between immature and mature bald eagles, what they eat, why they winter in the area and much more.
Attendees should dress for the weather, and water-proof boots are strongly recommended. Park officials suggest a full tank of gas, binoculars, snacks and warm beverages.
Bald Eagle Days events will take place at Pere Marquette State Park, from 8:30 am to 4 pm Wednesday, February 2nd........

Officials recently announced that Los Angeles-based entertainment company, Short Shoot will be creating and producing a one hour special highlighting the 2022 Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show. The special will air on FOX Sports on Sunday, March 6.
The special will include yacht debuts, interviews with industry leaders within the boating and marine industries, as well as on-site coverage from the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Mississippi River At Alton, Illinois Officials Hoping For A Strong Amphitheater Season........
While the COVID-19 outbreak caused the cancellation of events during the 2020 season, the Alton Amphitheater committee put together a schedule for 2021 that was filled with festivals and concerts at Riverfront Park.
Alton Amphitheater Committee Chairman Dan Herkert says that they are working on a schedule for 2022. The Commission organizes several festivals throughout the year, including five or six Summer Socials held on Fridays during June, July and August, fireworks on the Mississippi on July 3rd, and the Alton Expo, which will be held over a 5 day period in mid-September.
Since 2014, over 200,000 visitors have visited the Alton Amphitheater in Riverfrotn Park to see Grammy Award winning and nationally recognized musical acts such as the Beach Boys, Nelly, Kenny Rogers, Better Than Ezra and Dwight Yoakum........

Mississippi River Shipping Corps Receives Close To $1 Billion To Help River Shipping........
Nearly one billion dollars is coming to the St. Louis region to make improvements to shipping infrastructure and environmental habitats along the Mississippi River.
The federal funding, which was allocated in the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed last year, will fund the construction of a new 1,200 foot long lock and Lock and Dam No.25 at Winfield, Missouri.
Colonel Kevin Golinghorst, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District says that these investments will not only speed up locking tows through, but will add a level of redundancy to the lock........

The National Weather Service is forecasting ice and snow, which can spell trouble for boat docks. As coves freeze over, docks without deicers are threatened by the accumulating ice around them.
Heavy snow is among a dock's biggest enemies. The weight of heavy snow can cause a dock, and the boat and boat lift within to capsize and sink. Depending upon the dock's weight and floatation, few are immune to heavy snow.
If you venture put to check on your boat and dock and brush off the snow, make sure to wear a life jacket. The best recommendation is to make sure that the dock, and all that is inside of it is insured........
