CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - UPDATE Zone 6 Copperas (Mile 145.5 – Mile 129.1), Zone 5 Havana (Mile 128.9 – 102.0), Zone 3 Meredosia (Mile 80.2 – Mile 50.0) and Zone 2 Hardin (Mile 49.9 – 10.0). High water and drift potential may be encountered in this area. Mariners are advised to minimize wake and exercise caution. Avoid laying up on saturated levees. Mariners should be experienced in high water conditions and avoid down-streaming operations if possible. Mariners should remain vigilant to an increase in debris and maneuver appropriately. Be aware that a buildup of debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take appropriate actions to prevent breakaways. Exercise caution in all meeting and overtaking situations, as swift currents may be present. Navigational buoys may have been dragged off station, so remain cautious while transiting

Missouri River Flood Outlook As Levee Repair Continues, Missouri River Susceptible To More Flooding........
Even as March approaches, the levee system along the Missouri River remains vulnerable to flooding. Colonel John Hudson, commander of the Omaha District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said that a relatively mild winter and early snow melt in Nebraska may help alleviate some of the danger.
So far, the Corps has spent $263 million restoring levee damage caused by last March's record flooding. Hudson says that hundreds of contractors have been working daily to wrap up their work by March 1.
Hudson states that safety and protecting communities is a priority for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and close to $400 million in additional levee restoration expenditures are currently being processed........

Osage River Near Lake Ozark, Missouri Legislators Consider Riverboat Casino For LOTO........
Currently, Missouri law allows riverboat gambling only along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, but Missouri voters may soon decide whether or not to allow a riverboat casino along the Osage River.
Recently, a bill was introduced in the Missouri House that would change the state Constitution to allow gambling at the Lake of the Ozarks. Missouri State Representative Rocky Miller of Lake Ozark proposed legislation that adds the Osage River to the list of locations for Missouri casinos.
Miller states that his proposal would give Missouri voters additional input on gambling options. He adds that the bill was a good step towards changing gambling in Missouri, as it requires a vote from the people........

Mississippi River Jobs Riverboats At The Gateway Arch Accepting Applications........
The operators of the Riverboats at the Gateway Arch are seeking applicants to fill positions for the upcoming riverboat cruising season.
Officials are looking for full time, part time and seasonal workers, including bartenders, cashier, captain, cruise coordinator, deckhand, sales associate, server, cook and staff photographer.
While there was a job fair already held Saturday, two more will be held on February 17 and February 22 from 10 am to 1:00 pm aboard the Becky Thatcher Riverboat........

Ohio River Management River Regulators Planning Pollution Study........
Researchers are designing a new study to test for so called "forever chemicals" or Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) along the length of the Ohio River.
Concerns are being raised about PFAS contamination in drinking water systems within the Ohio River Valley, as studies have revealed the contaminants in the drinking water in several cities.
The researchers will be working with a multi-state commission tasked with monitoring water quality along the Ohio River known as the the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission........

Asian Carp Update Kentucky and Barkley Lakes Carp Concerns Mainly Driven By The Economy........
Kevin Kelly, spokesman for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources says that the main reason average people should be concerned about Asian carp infestation in Kentucky and Barkley Lakes is the economy.
Tourism brings in around 1 billion dollars to the Western Kentucky economy each year and the majority of that is linked to the recreational opportunities on the Lakes and the Land Between The Lakes.
On Wednesday, Kelly was on Kentucky Lake supervising a multi-agency effort at eradicating the Asian carp from the lakes. Officials are aiming to remove a half-million pounds of Asian carp from the lakes........

Added Sunday Mississippi River At Alton, Illinois Alton Riverfront Expected To Be Busy This Year........
This year, the Alton riverfront is expected to be busy, as it is one of two communities in the nation to receive a $250,000 award from the American Water Charitable Foundation and the National Recreation and Park Association.
Late this year, Alton officials are expecting to unveil a splash pad along the city's riverfront. According to Alton Mayor, Brant Walker, construction is expected to start in spring, and should be wrapped up by late summer or early fall.
Other events planned for the Riverfront park will include the return of the Alton Expo for the fourth consecutive year, and the food truck and wine & jazz festivals as well. As schedules are confirmed, concert announcements for the Amphitheater will be made........

Added Sunday Marina on Kaskaskia River at New Athens, IL Village Board Approved Offer To Former Tenant........
According to a post by Joe Behnken on New Athens Concerned Citizens Facebook, the Village Board approved an "offer to the the former tenant, lease expired 06/19, of the Marina: Forgive all debt owned ($75,000) and give all personal property to the tenant who has until June 2020 to remove from property . The personal property includes the floating docks and barge. The Village may permit the tenant to remove the rock from the parking lot as well (who knows)."

Added Sunday Mississippi River Shipping High Water Slowing Commodity Shipments........
The unseasonably high water levels along the Mississippi River system is causing delays to barge deliveries of coal, crude, fertilizer and metals which is prompting concerns of a repeat of last year's shipping problems.
The high river levels combined with swift currents along the Mississippi River makes navigation difficult, resulting in river operators slowing down and pushing fewer barges at a time. This results in longer amounts of time necessary to deliver commodities.
According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in St. Paul, Minnesota, the "historic" high water conditions, which are normally observed in late spring, were created by a combination of ice dams and historic high flow rates.
The corps is closely monitoring river conditions in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa because of an increased chance of flooding because of ice dams along with the river conditions on other parts of the Mississippi, Ohio, Illinois and Arkansas rivers.
For example....In New Orleans, Louisiana, high water is affecting vessel loading and unloading and the Illinois river is above flood stage in Beardstown, Illinois.. .......

Added Sunday Mississippi River At Minneapolis, Minnesota Man Fell Through Ice After Attempting To Cross The River Google Maps Told Him To Cross........
Early Saturday morning, Minneapolis firefighters were called out to the Mississippi River to rescue a man that fell through the ice while attempting to cross the river.
The incident occurred around 3 am Saturday morning near the Stone Arch Bridge. Responders arrived on the scene and found the man partially submerged.
The man told responders that Google Maps told him to cross the river. The Minneapolis Fire Department says that the app likely told the man to cross the Stone Arch Bridge rather than the river itself........

Missouri River Management Corps Increases Missouri River Releases........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently increased the releases from the Gavins Point Dam along the Upper Missouri River from 30,000 to 35,000 cubic feet per second. Typically, winter releases range between 12,000 and 17,000 cfs.
John Remus, chief of the Corps' Missouri River Basin Water Management Division says that all water from 2019 was emptied from the system in late January.
Remus adds that the higher than average winter releases from the Gavins Point Dam will allow the Corps to maintain more flood storage for a longer period of time........

Intercoastal Waterway Near Berwick, Louisiana Rock Barge Splits, Sinks.... Barge Traffic Backing Up....
The U.S. Coast Guard reports that close to 200 towing vessels and some 600 barges are queued along the Intracoastal Waterway while crews work to clear a split and partially sunken rock barge near Berwick, Louisiana.
A portion of the Intracoastal Waterway has been shut down since Sunday night, when the towboat Miss Odessa, which was pushing six rock filled hopper barges ran aground at Mile Marker 99.
Reportedly, Miss Odessa was heading southbound along the Atchafalaya River, when she turned west into the Intracoastal Waterway and hit bottom. One of the barges split in half and sank when the vessel tried to break free.........

Mississippi River At New Orleans, Louisiana Corps Eases Restrictions As River Falls ........
On Friday, the Mississippi River at New Orleans fell below 15 feet for the first time since January 25th. As a result, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers partially reduced restrictions on work on and near levees along the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers.
The Corps' switch from Phase II to Phase I flood fighting rules eliminates the outright ban on work within 1,500 feet of Mississippi River levees below Baton Rouge and levees along the Atchafalaya River.
Work on and near the levees will still require case by case waivers by the local levee districts or the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers........

Missouri River Near Nemaha, Nebraska Crews Scrambling To Repair Major Levee Breach........
Crews are working around the clock to close a levee breach some 2,500 feet long just south of Hamburg, which was ripped open by last year's flooding.
According to Darin Hendrickson, a subcontractor on the project says that they are running around 160 workers in day and night shifts. He adds that those numbers don't include the sheet piling crews.
Wall like sheets of steel are being driven deep into the levee to add stability to the levee as part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers efforts to get the levee south of Hamburg and a second levee further south closed prior to spring........

Canteen Creek-Cahokia Creek Watershed Heartlands Conservancy Receives $954,000 Grant........
John J. Kim, Director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency recently announced the award of nearly $954,000 in grant funding to the HeartLands Conservancy.
The grant will allow the group to provide technical and financial assistance to urban and rural landowners in voluntarily implementing the locally developed Canteen Creek-Cahokia Creek Watershed Plan.
Kim says that the project is intended to implement best management practices in the Canteen Creek-Cahokia Creek Watershed to reduce nonpoint source pollution, soil erosion as well as nutrient and sediment loading to improve the overall water quality........

Mississippi River At Quincy, Illinois Upper Mississippi, Illinois and Missouri Rivers Association Meeting Friday........
On Friday, Quincy, Illinois will be hosting the annual Upper Mississippi, Illinois and Missouri Rivers Association meeting. The UMIMRA works to make improvements to levees within the Upper Mississippi River Valley.
The theme of this year's meeting is Upper Mississippi River 2020 Vision, with the group working towards perfecting flood control, navigation as well as common-sense environmental stewardship.
The meeting will feature multiple speakers discussing flooding forecasts, updates on flood control legislation, updates on flood recoveries and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers district updates........

U.S. Warships Navy Takes Delivery Of The USS St. Louis........
Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri Marinette Marine have delivered the future littoral combat ship USS St Louis, LCS 19 to the U.S. Navy.
The USS St. Louis is the 10th Freedom-class ship, and the 19th littoral combat ship out of the 34 planned by the Navy. There are also Independence class LCS vessels underway
The Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri team is currently in full production, and to date, has delivered 10 vessels to the U.S. Navy. Currently, there are 6 ships in various levels of construction at Fincantieri Marinette Marine........

Lower Mississippi River Fear Of Hole In Levee Prompted Night Travel Ban........
Captain Robert Heitmeier has spent some 30 years working as a river pilot, and he says that he has never seen the Mississippi River moving as swiftly as it is, nor levees as saturated as they are.
For nearly a year now, the Board of Examiners of the New Orleans - Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots has kept in place a ban on nighttime river shipping. The ban may soon be over.
Captain Heitmeier says that the ban's end will be dependent on the volume of rain from the latest storms upstream as well as if the river falls slightly as predicted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers........

Mississippi River At St. Louis, Missouri Fewer Visitors Heading To The Arch........
Ever since the CityArchRiver project was largely completed in July 2018, there have been fewer visitors to the national park and riding the trams to the top of the 630 foot tall Gateway Arch.
According to figures from the National Park Service, just over 2 million visitors went through the turnstiles in 2018, down from 2.5 million visitors in 2012, the year before the groundbreaking. 1996 had the highest number of visitors, at 3.6 million.
Bi-State Development, who operates the Arch's elevator system says that tram ticket sales were down 11 percent last year, compared to the last full year before groundbreaking. Officials blame flooding and a recent decrease in attendance to national parks for the decrease in attendance.........

Boat Manufacturer Malibu Reports Record Quarter For 2020........
Malibu Boats, Inc. recently released the results of their second quarter of fiscal 2020, which included a net sales increase of 8.6 percent to $180.1 million compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2019.
Unit volume rose by 2.5 percent to 1,804 boats, compared to the second quarter of 2019. Net sales per unit rose by 6 percent to $99,840 per unit as compared to the second quarter of 2019.
Gross profit for 2Q20 increased by 4.1 percent to $39.9 million, and net income increased by 17.3 percent to $17.6 million, or $0.81 per share compared to 2Q19........

Boat Manufacturer Michigan State Senator Visited Manitou Facility........
Michigan State Senator Tom Barrett (R-MI-24) visited the Manitou Pontoon Boats' manufacturing facility last Monday. The Manitou facility employs 180 people and constructs over 2,500 boats each year.
The tour showcased the Manitou plant and emphasized the effect recreational boating has on the state of Michigan. During the tour, Senator Barrett met with company officials, toured the facility and met with employees.
Cory Highfield, the general manager of Manitou said that his team members take great pride in the products they manufacture and it was great to share their story........

Boat Show News Boat Show Attendance Down At Detroit, St. Louis and Toronto Shows........
During the 2020 boat show season, attendance was down at the Progressive Detroit Boat Show, the Toronto Boat Show and the Progressive Insurance St. Louis Boat & Sportshow. Organizers say that traffic was steady and dealers reported string sales.
During the 2020 Progressive Insurance St. Louis Boat & Sportshow, 20,883 people were in attendance. Officials report that there was steady traffic despite overall attendance numbers being about 10% down compared to 2019.
Highlights of the 2020 St. Louis Boat & Sportshow included the Discover Boating Experience, which featured seminars, demonstrations and hands-on learning, the Paddle Sports Pool, the Hawg Trough with daily fishing instruction, the Progressive Boat Club and the annual Turkey Calling Contest........

Upcoming Events Friday, February 14, 2020 Mississippi River At Grafton, Illinois The Loading Dock Hosting Couple's Skate For Valentine's Day........
On Friday, February 14, 2020, The Loading Dock will be hosting their fifth annual Couple's Skate for Valentine's Day. Couples can hit the ice, cozy up on the comfy couches or make s'mores by the fire.
The event will be held from 5 pm to 10 pm on Valentine's Day, and will cost $25 per couple. This fee includes admission and skate rental for two guests.
According to Afton Hughes, the event coordinator for The Loading Dock, the Couple's Skate is open to any two people, not just couples. It is a popular daddy-daughter date and a fun girl's night out........

Upcoming Events Saturday February 15, 2020 Mississippi River At Alton, Illinois Masters Of The Sky Event Next Weekend........
On Saturday, February 15, the National Great Rivers Museum at the Melvin Price Lock & Dam will be hosting their annual Masters of the Sky program.
The TreeHouse Wildlife Center will be bringing a wide variety of birds of prey including eagles, falcons, hawks, owls and vultures. Natural Resources Specialist Janet Meredith says that this is the biggest birding event of the season.
The Masters Of The Sky programs will presented at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm. There will be an opportunity to view a Bald Eagle at noon. Seating is limited and tickets are $5 per adult, $3 for kids 4 - 12 and kids 3 and under are free........

Lower Mississippi River Satellite Images Show Mississippi River Flooding........
Recent images captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument on NASA's Terra satellite reveal the effects of persistent rainfall in the Mississippi River Delta.
The false-color imaged taken by NASA's Terra satellite show the considerable difference in the Mississippi River from December 4, 2019 and February 2, 2020.
The December photo shows the Mississippi River looking fairly normal, but when compared to the February image, it is clear that the river has swelled out of it's banks and into the floodplains........

Boat Manufacturer MasterCraft Released Their Results For 2Q20........
On Wednesday, MasterCraft Boat Holdings reported an 18.0 percent decrease in sales for the second quarter of fiscal 2020, which ended on December 29, 2019.
Sales decreased from $121.5 million in the second quarter of 2019 to $99.6 million during the second quarter of 2020. Net income decreased to $6.9 million, down 32 percent for the quarter.
MasterCraft CEO Fred Brightbill says that the results for the second quarter of fiscal 2020 were s little ahead of expectations, as the company made adjustments to production to accommodate changing conditions........

February 6, 1988 in River History An oil storage tank split open at Ashland Oil, located near Pittsburg, PA, and sent a million-gallons of oil into the waters of the Monongahela River and Ohio River. The oil spill fouled the waters of two rivers, cut off public water supplies, killed fish and closed schools in three states.

Boat Manufacturer Michigan State Senator Visited Manitou Facility........
Michigan State Senator Tom Barrett (R-MI-24) visited the Manitou Pontoon Boats' manufacturing facility last Monday. The Manitou facility employs 180 people and constructs over 2,500 boats each year.
The tour showcased the Manitou plant and emphasized the effect recreational boating has on the state of Michigan. During the tour, Senator Barrett met with company officials, toured the facility and met with employees.
Cory Highfield, the general manager of Manitou said that his team members take great pride in the products they manufacture and it was great to share their story........

Mississippi River At Hannibal, Missouri Riverfront Project Progress Slowed By Winter Weather........
Back to back winter storms has slowed the progress being made on Hannibal's riverfront restoration project. Before the storms hit, Bleigh Construction, the general contractor on the project, had been making significant progress.
During a recent meeting of the Hannibal Park Board, Aron Lee, the assistant director of central services (parks division) said that the 2020's first few weeks weather conditions had been seasonally great for construction.
Lee reports that the project's north end has a number of utility lines installed and a significant amount of grading has been completed. Along the southern end, considerable progress has been made where the new marina will be located........

Mississippi River At Cape Girardeau, Missouri Funds Approved For Cape's River Wall Mural Lighting.........
A recent project proposal from Old Town Cape proposed the installation of 24 light fixtures atop the Cape Girardeau floodwall in order to highlight the walls murals and to offer an enhanced sense of safety along Water Street.
Scott Meyer, the city manager says that they had attempted to install lighting in years past, but they only recently gained the necessary permissions from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The permissions from the Corps stipulated a time limit of five years to complete the project. An exact time frame for beginning the project has yet to be determined........

Boating Safety House Subcommittee Calls For Quicker Safety Rule Implementation........
Back in November, the U.S. House of Representatives' Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee held a hearing on Commercial and Passenger Vessel Safety: Challenges and Opportunities.
The hearing's testimony dealt with a variety of issues, including recent tragedies such as the dive boat Conception fire and sinking and antiquated maritime laws.
Following the hearing, new safety legislation was introduced by California Senator Diane Feinstein and Representative Salud Carbajal, that would require the Secretary of the department in which the U.S. Coast Guard is operating to mandate additional regulations to guarantee the safety of individuals and property aboard certain small passenger vessels........

Duck Boat News Daughter Of Duck Boat Accident Victim Condemns Mo. Legislation........
On Tuesday, the daughter of Bill Asher, who was among the 17 people that died following a tourist duck boat sinking on Table Rock Lake in July 2018, condemned a bill that would limit when companies can be sued over product that injure people.
An attorney for Jennifer Asher addressed legislators Tuesday, stating that if this legislation was in place when the accident occurred, Asher and other victim's family members would not have been able to sue.
Asher said that the bill would limit a company's liability for it's product to 15 years. She adds that she believes that the bill could lead to more disasters like the one she went through........

Lower Mississippi River Iowa Senator Calls For Funding To Deepen The River........
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst recently held a meeting with the Assistant Secretary of the Army R.D. James, who supervises all parts of the Corps' Civil Works program, including flood control and dredging, to emphasize the need for funding for a crucial dredging project along the Mississippi River.
Senator Ernst says that the project would deepen the Mississippi River Ship Channel, which is a section of the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and the Gulf of Mexico, from 45 feet to 50 feet.
Ernst added that better than half of all U.S. corn and soybean exports are shipped along this channel. She said that she made it clear to Secretary James how important the dredging project is for Iowa, and would like to see the Corps prioritize it during 2020.........

Boat Propulsion News Outboard Engine Sales At 13 Year High........
According to the National Marine Manufacturers Association's 2019 U.S. Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract, Outboard Engine Sales Trends report, outboard engine sales increased for the eighth consecutive year last year, nearly reaching pre-recession levels with a 13 year high.
Vicky Yu, director of business intelligence for the NMMA says that the trend in consumer demand for higher performance engines continue with outboard engine sales growth in 2019. Leading the way are 200HP + making up 27 percent of sales, and outboards 300 HP + making up 18 percent.
Yu adds that during the fourth quarter of 2019, the inventory turns are healthy and outboard manufacturers are expending capacity in anticipation of demand. They are expecting 2020 to be another growth year for outboard engine sales........

CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - UPDATE Zone 6 Copperas (Mile 145.5 – Mile 129.1), Zone 5 Havana (Mile 128.9 – 102.0), Zone 3 Meredosia (Mile 80.2 – Mile 50.0) and Zone 2 Hardin (Mile 49.9 – 10.0). High water and drift potential may be encountered in this area. Mariners are advised to minimize wake and exercise caution. Avoid laying up on saturated levees. Mariners should be experienced in high water conditions and avoid down-streaming operations if possible. Mariners should remain vigilant to an increase in debris and maneuver appropriately. Be aware that a buildup of debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take appropriate actions to prevent breakaways. Meramec RIver Corps Has Plans For Meramec River Flood Mitigation.........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting some public hearings to discuss the results of an 18 month study to find ways to reduce flood damage along the Meramec River.
The Corps refers to it as the Lower Meramec Floodplain Management Plan and it offers several options with cost estimates. Since 2015, there have been 3 historic floods along the Lower Meramec River and the Corps took a look at the 942 structures in the floodplain and made recommendations for all of them.
In some cases, the plan will involve some homes and businesses being bought out and others would be raised to a higher elevation. In Arnold and Pacific, the Corps is recommending relocating certain trailer parks........

Missouri River Tributaries MSD: Avoid 2 Maryland Heights Creeks After Force Main Break........
On Monday, the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District advised people to avoid contact with portions of Caulks Creek and Bonhomme Creek following a force main break.
MSD reports that the underground force main broke on the outskirts of Maryland Heights. They shut down pump stations so that repairs can be made. Repair work began around noon near Creve Coeur Mill Road and Highway 141.
According to MSD, the shutdown increases the likelihood of wastewater overflows in the region, therefore, people should avoid Caulks Creek in a wooded area west of Crystal Spring Drive and Bonhomme Creek, along the Monarch Chesterfield Levee Trail, and other sections of the creek near Interstate 64........

Boat Propulsion Manufacturer Yamaha Introduced Boat Power Systems Team.... Their Focus Is Innovation....
Yamaha's U.S. Marine Business Unit recently announced they have assembled a new Boat Power Systems team whose focus in innovation in the North American boat and propulsion market.
Martin Peters, senior marine communications manager for Yamaha says that the application of technology to recreational transportation is a fascinating new era that the Boat Power Systems team is exploring.
Peters adds that while the team has great talent and skills, they are not able to reveal what they're working on. There is no timeline for when some of those innovations may hit the market........

Boat Manufacturer Statement Marine Has Acquired Pilini Marine Assets........
Performance boat manufacturer Statement Marine announced that they have purchased the assets of Clearwater, Florida-based Pilini Marine. Details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Nick Buis, president of Statement Marine said that he was interested when the deal was presented to him, so he "jumped on it". He adds that the deal was completed very quickly.
A key to the deal was the 34 foot Pilini catamaran, which will give Statement an entry into the performance outboard catamaran market. Pilini says that he is finishing a 36 foot version of the hull, which will allow Statement to offer a 34 or 36 foot cat built on the same hull. Most will be powered b y twin Mercury Racing 450R outboards........

CONDITION/SAFETY ADVISORY - UPDATE Zone 6 Copperas (Mile 145.5 – Mile 129.1), Zone 5 Havana (Mile 128.9 – 102.0), Zone 3 Meredosia (Mile 80.2 – Mile 50.0) and Zone 2 Hardin (Mile 49.9 – 10.0). High water and drift potential may be encountered in this area. Mariners are advised to minimize wake and exercise caution. Avoid laying up on saturated levees. Mariners should be experienced in high water conditions and avoid down-streaming operations if possible. Mariners should remain vigilant to an increase in debris and maneuver appropriately. Be aware that a buildup of debris in fleeting areas may have occurred and take appropriate actions to prevent breakaways. Exercise caution in all meeting and overtaking situations, as swift currents may be present. Navigational buoys may have been dragged off station, so remain cautious while transiting

Mississippi River Flooding Outlook Flooding Concerns Raised Over Warmer Temps, Ice Jams........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Minnesota are keeping close tabs on the Mississippi River, as ice jams between Winona and the Iowa border may cause some flooding.
Minnesota hydrologists have stated that the Mississippi River has been running at sustained levels never before seen during January, and that has them concerned about what that could lead to this spring.
According to Dan Fasching, a Minnesota state hydrologist, the Mississippi River is flowing like it is late spring, and dependant upon the temperatures and ice melt, there may be more high water in the weeks and months to come........

Meramec River Flooding Corps' Plan May Help Meramec River Residents With Flooding........
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District has come up with a plan that may help eight municipalities and three counties alone the Meramec River better deal with flooding. There have been three record flood events since 2015.
The Corps has released a report detailing several strategies such as purchasing flood-prone properties and restoring wetlands within the flood plains for areas that are especially susceptible to flooding.
County and municipal governments will decide in March whether to adopt the Corps' plans. Hal Graef, a St. Louis Corps program manager says that adopting the plan will help them to better inform residents about flood plain development.........

Formula Boats is redoubling their efforts to come up with a hassle-free experience for boaters through their partnership with Sea Tow Services.
Formula will be providing Sea Tow coverage on all new boats for five years. Brian Chandler with Commonwealth PR, the firm that handles public relations for Sea Tow, says that this is an unusually long period of time for a manufacturer to guarantee buyers on-water support.
According to Mike Boyd, Formula's product support and consumer affairs director, the five year Sea Tow membership perfectly complements the five year product warranty and Vessel Vanguard subscriptions........

The campground at Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton will be closing down for renovations. The closure will continue through mid-August.
Crews will be making upgrades to electrical service, water lines, campsite pads and roadway repairs. The upgrades will help serve the larger RV's that are more commonplace these days.
The remainder of Pere Marquette State Park will be open, including the lodge, visitor's center and park trails........

Added Sunday Tennessee River Near Grand Rivers, Kentucky High Water Causes Delays In Kentucky Lock Project........
High river levels along the Tennessee River has caused the placement of the 10th and final concrete shell for the Kentucky Lock addition project in Grand Rivers, Kentucky to be delayed.
The shells are being used as part of the coffer dam needed for the construction of the new lock in dry conditions. The ten shells will eventually become permanent part of the lock wall.
According to Don Getty, project manager fo the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, the 10th shell was originally supposed to be installed in December, but will likely be installed sometime in February........

Added Sunday Lake Of The Ozarks 51 Foot Cruiser Sinks After Fire........
Saturday afternoon, a 51 foot Bluewater cruiser caught fire on the Lake of the Ozarks, leaving behind a sunken wreck and a charred dock behind.
According to Travis Coleman of Lake Tow, smoke was visible coming from a cove near the 7 Mile Marker of the Gravois Mills (west) side of the Lake.
Containment boom has been deployed around the dock. On Monday, Lake Tow will be working with Atlantis Dive & Dock Salvage to raise the boat, which will be towed across the main channel and removed at the Lodge of the Four Seasons........

Added Sunday Lake Of The Ozarks Sunrise Beach Dumping Brown Sludge Into The Lake........
On January 3rd, it became public knowledge that the Village of Sunrise Beach had received notice of multiple violations of state law, after an October inspection found that the village's sewage treatment plant had been discharging partly treated sewage onto the ground just uphill from the lake.
Three days later, a nearby resident reported to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources that the treatment plant's discharge creek, which is used to released safely treated water into the lake, was full of brown effluent and deep sludge.
On January 7th, two DNR investigators walked the creek with the concerned resident and found that there were water quality concerns of sludge buildup along the entire creek's length. An oily greasy scum was evident floating atop of the creek, and the nearby hill had evidence of effluent bypassing present........

Missouri Flood Preparation FEMA, SEMA Urge Flood Preparedness........
Last year's extreme flooding caused many people to evacuate their homes, businesses to be closed for several weeks and left farmers with ruined crops, resulting in a long road to recovery.
The flooding caused Missouri Governor Mike Parson to request a major disaster declaration for several counties. FEMA agreed to Parson's request, and is providing assistance to local governments, nonprofits and individuals in 68 counties.
On Thursday, FEMA said that the National Weather Service believes that there is a possibility that Missouri may experience serious flooding in just a few weeks. Officials say now is the time to begin preparing.........

Alabama Marina Fire Update Marina Fire Victims Have Been Identified........
The eight people that died in a marina fire in Alabama have been identified, including a mother and her five children. The mother was identified as Grace Annette Watson Miles, 40, and her children Christopher Zane Long, 19, Bryli Anniston Long, 16, Trayden Dominic Miles, 10, Kesston Damien Miles, 9 and Dezli Nicole Miles 7. The other two victims were Amanda Foster, 38 and Yancy Ferrell Roper, 54.
Paul Smith, the Jackson County Emergency Management Director says that they had initially focused on one boat as the cause of the fire, but under further investigation, it was determined to not be the fire's source. State and federal investigators are looking for a 40 to 45 foot "boat of interest".
Smith added that many of the boats had burned to the waterline, making their identification difficult. he says that crews were working on recovering debris and collecting spilled fuel. The U.S. Coast Guard, the National Transportation Safety Bureau, and Alabama State Fire Marshal and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are all investigating the fire........

Boating Mishaps Florida Man Pumped Gas Onto His Boat Deck.........
On Monday, a Florida man inserted a fuel nozzle into a fishing pole holder and proceeded to pump approximately $60 worth of gasoline onto the deck of the boat and onto the ground at a gas station.
According to Mike Jachies, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Rescue, the fuel flowed from the rod holder and onto the deck of the 24 foot boat. The 31 year old man realized his mistake and stopped pumping fuel.
Gasoline started leaking from the boat onto the lot at the 7-Eleven store. The man ended up advising 7-Eleven staff about the incident and calling authorities........

Boat Manufacturer Marquis Yachts Will Remain Open........
The news reports that Marquis Yachts in Pulaski, Wisconsin might be shutting down indefinitely are not correct. WHBY.com had reported that the manufacturer of the Marquis, Carver and Lexus brands might be shutting down until a buyer is found.
This news report referred to a state-issued press release that stated a workforce reduction of more than 300 people would be taking place on March 1, 2020, unless a sale is finalized by the end of February.
An anonymous source stated that Marquis had a workforce adjustment in December, but next week they will be bringing people back. The company now has a one year back-log and there are several potential buyers interested.........

Boat Gear Manufacturer Johnson Outdoors Released Their 1Q'20 Results........
Johnson Outdoors Inc. has released the results of their first fiscal quarter of 2020, which ended on December 27, 2019. Net sales for the quarter increased 23 percent to $128.1 million, compared to $104.4 million during the first quarter of 2019. Net income increased to $6.4 million, compared to $3.5 million last year.
Sales in the Fishing category, which includes trolling motors and electronics, increased to $99.2 million for the quarter, compared to $78.8 million during the first quarter of 2019.
Johnson also reported an 11 percent increase in Watercraft Recreation sales to $4.8 million. Diving saw increases, from $15.5 million during to first quarter of 2019 to $16.5 million for this quarter........

spans the Mississippi River between St. Clair County, Illinois, and the city
of St. Louis, Missouri. Construction started April 19, 2010, the bridge
opened on February 9, 2014.
