Archaeologists, Osage Nation Seek Search For Mounds Prior To Stadium Construction........

There is a lot of planning and talk about a proposed riverfront stadium going on, and amid the discussion, the Osage Nation and archaeologists are calling for a serious study of the construction site prior to the start of work.

If there are any remnants of the prehistoric Mississippian civilization remaining, they lie weeded lots, vacant warehouses, rutted streets, and scattered businesses in the 90 acre riverfront site.

There are maps and sketches dating to the early 1800s that locate at least 12 mounds within the proposed stadium site, and approximately a dozen more north and west of the project's boundaries........

Even though an agreement between the City of Miami and the village of Key Biscayne fell through, the National Marine Manufacturers Association says that the 2016 Miami International Boat Show will still be held at the Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin.

Ellen Hopkins, the NMMA's spokeswoman says that regardless of mediation, the 2016 boat show is proceeding at the Miami Marine Stadium Park and Basin.

Hopkins adds that it would be nice if Miami and Key Biscayne could come to an agreement, but the NMMA wants the Miami Marine Stadium to be a long term site for the boat show........

Mississippi River At Alton, Illinois

Warrior Paddle Traveling Through Alton........

Once soldiers of past generations returned from war, many would have to hike home after their service ended.  Some found the solitude of hiking to be therapeutic.

Advancements in transportation, however, has rendered the hike all but obsolete.  There is a Veteran that is bringing the hike back, via a project called Warrior Hike.

For the Veterans that are unable to hike due to injury, Warrior Hike founder Sean Gobin is experimenting with a paddling option.  Currently, Warrior Paddle has four veterans scouting out the trip down the Mississippi River.  They will be arriving at the Alton Marina Saturday, and overnighting at the Atrium Hotel........

Lake Of The Ozarks

No Wake Legislation Being Considered........

This year on the Lake of the Ozarks, large boat wakes have been blamed for several injuries and swampings.  State legislators are debating whether legislation could help reduce wakes on the Lake.

During 2015, there was a mandated no wake zone covering the entire Lake, on account of extraordinary rainfall and flooding around the Lake.

The no wake restriction was overall well received, as it served to protect property from damage.  When the no wake restriction was lifted for the 4th of July, business owners and others that depend on the Lake praised the decision........

Fall Color Outlook

The Fall Colors Should Peak Mid October........

Across Missouri, the fall colors are beginning to peak in some areas.  Other areas are seeing delays, on account of the lack of very cool nights.

Fall color in Mid-Missouri, including the Lake of the Ozarks, Columbia, and Jefferson City, is progressing slowly.  While there are some colors present, dry weather patterns are causing some leaves to fall off quickly.

Northeastern Missouri, including Hannibal and Kirksville, is seeing a delay in fall colors, due to a lack of cool weather.  Many ash trees' leaves have gone straight to brown,, however, other trees' leaves should turn colors within the next week or two, as cool weather descends upon the region........

Mississippi River At Louisiana, Missouri

Inspection Reveals 1,500 Rivets Need To Be Replaced On The Span........

The Missouri Department of Transportation reports that the Champ Clark Bridge at Louisiana, Missouri needs some 1,500 rivets replaced on the underside of the span.  The bridge will be closed later this month so the repairs can be made.

The degraded rivets were discovered during the span's annual safety inspection back in August.  Most spans are inspected bi-annually, but annual inspections are necessary on the Champ Clark Bridge due to it's age and condition.

The Champ Clark Bridge is but one of approximately 600 bridges in Missouri that are in need of replacement.  Estimates for replacing the Champ Clark Bridge are hovering around $60 million, to be split between Illinois and Missouri........

News Release From BoatUS

BoatUS and Dockwa Partner for Transient Slip Booking Benefit

Tapping Into the "OpenTable" for the Boating Industry

ALEXANDRIA, Va., October 7, 2015 -- Booking a slip, dock or mooring just got a lot easier for the 500,000+ members of Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS). A new partnership with Dockwa, an award-winning unified booking and marketing platform that greatly simplifies the transient slip booking process, now allows BoatUS members to find and book a slip with just a few taps on the Dockwa app – a seamless and secure process that streamlines communication and payment via an innovative digital platform that no longer requires reservations via email or phone.

As an exclusive BoatUS benefit, members using the Dockwa app or choosing to book online at Dockwa.com will have booking fees waived when arranging dockage at any of the BoatUS Participating Marinas. Discounts will be subject to specific marinas within Dockwa’s growing network. This member perk is in addition to the exclusive transient slip discount currently offered to BoatUS members, which typically reflects a 25% savings. BoatUS members can sign up for Dockwa with great ease and convenience by simply entering their membership number during the registration process where all applicable discounts will be automatically applied.

“This is the most convenient way for our members to book their transient reservations for docks and moorings,” said BoatUS Vice President of Membership Heather Lougheed. “No waiting for a call back, no voicemail or web forms to fill out. Just tap the Dockwa app, book and dock. You don’t even have to bring your wallet as payment is automated. If weather causes you to change your plans, it can be done with Dockwa’s easy messaging feature.”

The ease and convenience of the Dockwa platform has been positively received by early adopters within the marina and boating community. "Dockwa is the only mobile reservation service that really listened to our concerns,” said Tom Cox, General Manager and owner of the Constitution Marina in Boston, Massachusetts. “They have the technical know-how and the business acumen to make this next generation of marina software a success."

Launched in May of 2015 in the New England region, the entrepreneurial team of eight rapidly expanded down the Eastern Seaboard with a growing network of over 175 marinas from Maine to the Bahamas. The platform has already begun west coast expansion with plans to expand to further develop to other parts of the country later this year.

The New South Harbor Has Opened........

America's Central Port's new South Harbor has now opened for business.  On Monday morning, a dedication ceremony commemorated the completion of the project, which began in late 2012.

Officials are hoping that the port project will keep the focus on the region as a budding transportation hub.  According to America's Central Port Executive Director, Dennis Wilmsmeyer, the harbor project is just another step in building a multi-modal facility that should be attractive to businesses.

The South Harbor is located downstream of Lock and Dam No.27. which allows for free-flowing water between the St. Louis Metropolitan region and the Port of New Orleans........
