Bill, Hi!

I saw WillPower's pics and just had to add. The colors as Lou said were beautiful. I had never been up to the Winfield Lock area this time of year. Cedar Hill had a nice Oriental Buffet. The dessert was homade!

Here is a shot of Cedar Hill in its fall glory.

Roamin' Steel is featured a "fall carpet" background.

Picture of the Day ..... was sent to us by Capt'n Richard Moore who hails out of the Yacht Club of St. Louis.......

Hi Bill

I took this picture this morning, Monday after deciding last night to spend the night on our boat. We are out of Yacht Club St. Louis, took this from our Mariah Z302. Nothing better than waking up, and going for a cruise. Especially when you have the whole Dardenne slough to yourself!

As I sit at my desk now working I have this picture to remind me of the beauty that is our river and only 20 min from my house!

Happy Monday!

Hi Bill

After some eye surgery last week, I'm restricted to not picking up anything over 20 pounds for another few days. That kind of limits what you can do, so the only thing I could think of that did not violate the doctors orders was to go boat shopping. While in Portage Des Sioux, I was treated to this view. The photo does not do the colors justice.

See you on the river. Boating season ain't over yet - It will be over when WE say it's over.

Veterans Day, Nov. 11

    Army Corps of Engineers

Waives day use fees at recreation areas on Veterans Day

WASHINGTON (Oct. 28, 2014) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve-component Service members, and their families at the more than 2,200 Corps of Engineers-operated recreation areas nationwide on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The fee waiver requires only verbal confirmation of service. The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or USACE, does not charge an entrance fee to access its parks. Other agencies that manage recreation areas on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas that they manage.

"We first began the Veterans Day fee waiver in 2006, as a way to honor the men and women who have served our nation and the armed forces," said James R. Hannon, USACE chief of operations, here.

"We invite veterans, active and reserve[-component] Service members, and their families this Veterans Day to launch a boat, swim at one of our beaches, or just spend some time together enjoying the outdoors free of charge," added Hannon.

USACE is the nation's largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation hosting more than 370 million visits annually to its 404 lakes and river projects. It's estimated that 90 percent of the USACE-operated recreation areas are within 50 miles of metropolitan areas, offering diverse outdoor activities for all ages close to home.

The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. USACE does not charge an entrance fee to access its parks. Other agencies that manage recreation areas on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas that they manage.

“We first began the Veterans Day fee waiver in 2006 as a way to honor the men and women who have served our nation and the armed forces,” said James R. Hannon, USACE Chief of Operations in Washington, D.C.

"We invite veterans, active and reserve service members, and their families this Veterans Day to launch a boat, swim at one of our beaches, or just spend some time together enjoying the outdoors free of charge,” added Hannon.

USACE is the nation’s largest federal provider of outdoor and water-based recreation hosting more than 370 million visits annually to its 404 lakes and river projects. It’s estimated that 90 percent of the USACE-operated recreation areas are within 50 miles of metropolitan areas offering diverse outdoor activities for all ages close to home. To discover a USACE recreation site nearest you, please visit http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visitors/visitors.cfm.

Yesteryear's Pictures of the Day in 2013.........  were sent to us by Captain Randy Bicknese of the boats Lady Di and Lady Di II

Bill,

I am sending you a couple of the many great pictures we have captured while boating on the river during this October. One photo was taken very early last Saturday morning (October 19, 2013) at the lower end of Turkey Island. We had an overnight camping/fishing trip with some friends from Winfield and Lake Center Marina that ended up lasting two days. We caught some nice sized blue catfish thanks to Sparky. The other photo of Captain Hayden and his first mate Dexter was taken this past Sunday (October 27, 2013) while Hayden was learning to pilot the Lady Di II between Grafton Harbor and Lake Center Marina. We have to teach them young on the river. River dog Dexter looks really stressed by his situation doesn’t he? Hayden will be ready for his own drag boat before we know it.

See you on the river,

Randy Bicknese
