Hey Bill,

River is at 28 foot same as last Monday , but at least its in way back down.
This big old "Owens" wasn't here last week. It's tied up real good at least.

The snapper (in the 2nd pic) has taken up residence on my stairs.

Can't wait to get my feet in the sand, summer's coming.

Lewis and Clark Re-enactors

Need Chase Boats for Heritage Days in Frontier Park

If you have a boat that you can launch on the Missouri River, consider helping the Lewis and Clark reenactors. They will be launching their full armada of the keelboat as well as two pirogues and are looking for a little of your time to help. A chase boat is needed prepare by taking soundings on Wed-Friday, May 14-16. In addition, there’s a need on Saturday, May 17 to accompany the boats up from Columbia Bottoms to the staging area in North St. Charles. They’ll also need some help on Saturday afternoon to bring the boats up to Frontier Park. Preferably, they’re looking for a bass boat with a fairly good size engine so that they can move quickly in case of emergency. If you can help, contact Tom Ronk at 573-690-0930.

Thanks again for your help.

News Release From BoatUS

Media Alert: Recovery Tips For Boats Damaged by Tornadoes

ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 29, 2014 -- After yesterday’s devastating tornados in the South and Midwest, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) has these tips for affected boat owners to get the recovery process started and to preserve the value of boats damaged by the storms:

1. If insured, notify your insurance company as soon as possible. All BoatUS insurance customers have assistance available with post-storm recovery and are urged to call the BoatUS Claims at (800) 937-1937 as soon as practical. If your boat is sunk or must be moved by a salvage company, it is not recommended that you sign any salvage or wreck removal contract without first getting approval from your insurance company. If possible, take photographs or videos of the boat before it is moved – these may help to quickly resolve your claim.

2. Play it safe. Damaged marinas could have fuel leaking from boats or other hazards, and understand that some facilities may need to temporarily restrict access until these hazards are taken care of. Only enter with permission and never climb in or on boats that have piled up together, are under damaged shed roofs, or are hung up on other obstructions.

3. Depending on your boat’s location, and if it is safe to do so, you may want to consider removing as much equipment as possible to a safe place to protect it from looters or vandals. It’s a good idea to put your contact information somewhere conspicuously on the boat – along with a “No Trespassing” sign.

4. Protect the boat from further water damage resulting from exposure to the weather. This could include covering broken windows or hatches. As soon as possible, start drying the boat out, either by taking advantage of sunny weather or using electric air handlers. All wet and damaged materials items such as cushions should be removed, dried out and saved for a potential insurance claim. The storm may be gone, but the clock could be ticking on mold growth

CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a Great Outdoors Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center to commemorate National Park Trust’s (NPT) Third Annual National Kids to Parks Day. This event is open to children ages 5 to15. A parent or gaurdian will be required to accompany children who are between the ages of 5 and 10. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the scavenger hunt at 9:30 a.m. Participants will have an hour to complete the hunt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers who find all the items on the scavenger hunt list. All participants will receive prizes. After the hunt, park rangers will present “Natures Treasures” an environmental program to educate participants about the natural items on their scavenger hunt list.

At a time when an obesity epidemic affects nearly 1 in 3 children who are either overweight or obese, communities are witnessing sky-rocketing rates of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and elevated cholesterol levels in children. Parks and cities across the nation are committing to a simple motto: “active kids are healthy kids” and encouraging their residents to use National Kids to Parks Day as the first of many days spent outdoors or at local parks and recreation sites to develop a more active and healthy lifestyle.

For additional information on the scavenger hunt please contact the Carlyle Lake Project Office at (618) 594-2484 or email at carlylelake@usace.army.mil.

TULLY TOWN AT POLESTAR BOATING CENTER

As is common among river boaters when one is in trouble another will come to their aid. Some have been displaced from their normal abodes and others have stepped up and offered them shelter. Pete Tully has high ground so several have moved their trailers and motorhomes to his facility as well as Tim Tighe offering his trailer there for live aboards Mark and Barb from Woodland.
Looks like Zulu is taking care of perimeter security while Charlie is keeping an eye on things inside the compound, a necessity when Captain Carl is cooking!

Fishy Tales From The Missouri River

Tagged Paddlefish Swims To Kansas City........

Chinese Market May Hold Answer To Carp Dilemma........

It is no secret that the Asian carp population is taking over U.S. waterways, but there may be a new hope in the war against carp:  the Chinese market.  Carp is a cheap and common meal in China, and a fishing industry is cropping up along carp infested waters in the U.S.  According to Jeff Smith, operations manager of Two Rivers Fisheries in Wickliffe, Kentucky, 90% of their sales is exported to China........
