Bill,

Here's a picture just taken in Pickensville, AL at "Pirate's Marina Cove" marina.
We're waiting for a south-bound tow to finish locking at the Tom Bevill lock.
We left out of Vonore, TN one week ago. I would have liked to get a picture with the Smoky Mountains.

The second picture was taken by long time friends Geneva & Pete Andrews "Woodja" from the HWY 60 bridge crossing the Tennessee River.

Third is a picture of the Delta Queen a few days ago tied up in down-town Chattanooga.

The "Indian Princess" is the same boat pictured in Woodland Marina's web-site and facebook page. (new owners, new name)
That picture was taken by Glenn about 5 years ago. I think it made Riverbill's pic of the day back then.

On our way to Ft Myers Beach, Florida,
We check out RiverBills.com everyday!

  Springtime Flooding Outlook

Several Factors Will Determine Flooding Likelihood........

The first day of spring is only about a month away, yet there is still a significant amount of snow on the ground.  Concerns are being raised that rapidly melting snow and spring rains could conspire to cause flooding.  According to Iowa State Climatologist Harry Hillaker, Iowa's ground is solidly frozen down to approximately 33 inches.  This is around twice as deep as is normal for this time of year.  And rains that fall are likely to run off the land........

    Party Boat Partly Sinks........

On Monday, one of the Lake's most famous party boats, the Captain Larry Don, was listing to starboard, with a considerable amount of her stern under the water.  Apparently, ice damaged the vessel's hull.  Crews were able to quickly refloat the boat.  The popular party boat had been purchased by the owners of Beavers at the Dam last year.  The plans were to renovate the vessel as part of the expansion of Beavers at the Dam.  These plans are not affected by the partial sinking........

Troop F To Offer Certified Boater Safety Course

MISSOURI STATE HIGHWAY PATROL
a division of the
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY

NEWS RELEASE

Captain Gregory D. Kindle, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces a boater safety certification course being offered to the public on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at the Osage Beach Police Department,
1000 City Parkway, Osage Beach, MO. The class will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at approximately 4:00 p.m. There is no fee for this course; however, students are required to pre-register online as seating will be limited. Students are also advised to bring a snack or sack lunch to the training. For more information, to register for the course, or to obtain a complete listing of where other courses are being offered, you may visit the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Web site, www.mshp.dps.mo.gov. A Boat Safety Education & Certification link can be found on the left side of the Patrol's home page under training. On the day of the class, the “Boat Safety” link also will post if the course is being canceled due to an insufficient number of participants.

Missouri law requires any person born after January 1, 1984, to carry a boater safety certification card along with a picture I.D. anytime they operate a vessel, which includes personal watercraft, on Missouri lakes. Any student who successfully passes the course will be eligible to order the boater safety certification card for $15.

The Patrol encourages motorists and watercraft operators to protect themselves by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint and everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life and Wear It!!!

     National Great Rivers Museum

“Masters of the Sky”: Eagles, Falcons, and Hawks Oh My!

Alton, Ill. – The National Great Rivers Museum along with the Meeting of the Rivers Foundation announces the return of the “Masters of the Sky” show, presented by the World Bird Sanctuary, February 15, 16, and 17, 2014, at the National Great Rivers Museum.

These one-hour long spectacles feature live birds of prey and offer an opportunity to view eagles, owls, falcons, vultures, and hawks up close. The program will describe the challenges and obstacles these majestic creatures face on their annual migrations. While these rehabilitated birds may no longer soar in the wild, they provide an unforgettable opportunity to educate us about their role in the Mississippi River ecosystem. Spectators can look forward to specially trained birds that soar before your eyes!

Shows are available at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. daily during the 3 day event. Seating is limited to 200 tickets per show. Shows are conducted in a heated tent just outside the museum doors; please dress accordingly. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children 4-12 years of age, and free for children 3 and under who can sit on a parent or guardian lap. Tickets may be purchased by visiting the National Great Rivers Museum, by calling 618-462-6979, or online at www.mtrf.org.

Cameras and binoculars for eagle spotting are welcome. Other activities that weekend will include crafts for the kids, photos with “Eric the Eagle,” a 14-minute film “Where Eagles Soar”, and more. Visitors will also enjoy free tours of Melvin Price Locks and Dam for a chance to see wild eagles from a bird’s eye view!

This program is made possible by the Meeting of the Rivers Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public about the importance of Great Rivers. The National Great Rivers Museum is located off River Heritage Parkway (IL Hwy 143) at #2 Lock & Dam Way, Alton, IL 62024, adjacent to Melvin Price Locks & Dam. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and has free admission and tours of the locks and dam. For more information, or to purchase tickets to a “Masters of the Sky” show, call 618-462-6979 or toll free 877-462-6979, or go online to www.mtrf.org.
