Recently, the Lake of the Ozarks Watershed Alliance applied for a federal grant that could stop shoreline erosion below the Lake of the Ozarks Community (toll) Bridge.  The LOWA has applied for just under $300,000 in federal funding, and would contribute approximately $200,000 in non-federal matching funds.  The funds would be used to install riprap on the peninsula under the bridge........

Upper Mississippi River Region

Illinois and Iowa Getting Ready For The Eagles........

Each year, between December and February, thousands of bald eagles migrate to the locks and dams along the Mississippi River.  The turbulent water below the dams provides open water and a veritable buffet of stunned fish for the eagles to nosh on.  The wooded bluffs along the river give the eagles habitat for roosting and nesting.  As a result, communities along the Mississippi River have organized eagle watches and other activities........

Asian Carp Update

Carp May Have Arrived In The Great Lakes........

Scientists are debating whether the Asian carp have arrived in the Great Lakes.  A single water sample, amid many taken last May, has tested positive for DNA from silver carp.  The finding was announced back in October, and debated by scientists as to it's significance.  Testing in the same area in November has resulted in negative results.  Monday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be releasing a lengthy study that will propose ways to stop invasive species from migrating to the Great Lakes........
