 Bill,

In the first of the two pictures the pot of gold at the end of the outer rainbow appears to be in the barge load of the tow. In the second picture is our own pot of gold that gives us the pool we enjoy so much.

The River Picture on this Day In 2004 ---- Was a shot of the a sun set in 2004

We should count our "River Blessings" and look forward to a new beginning in 2005. This year has been real good for me. The weather and the river in the Spring allowed us to get an early start on the boating year. The flooding came but did not cause a lot of problems and we had a lot of good weekend weather during the summer. We boated real late into the fall of the year thanks to friends with cruisers. Most important I had no boat problems and I made a lot of new "River Friends" this year. I take my captain's hat off and raise it high to the year 2004. May next year be even better.

Then it crossed the Mississippi River to the ferry landing in Missouri. The sun was just about ready to disappear for the day when this picture was taken creating an orange glow in the sky that sort of outlines the trees on the island.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jefferson City, Missouri

New Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Location

Captain Ron's Restaurant has received approval from the Missouri State Water Patrol on their application to hold the event formerly known as the Lake Rescue Shootout boat race.  After hearing presentations from three applicants on December 17th, the Water Patrol determined the safest overall location would be around the 34.5 mile mark just downstream from the Hurricane Deck Bridge.  The course will run downstream from the bridge approximately 2 miles on the southwest side of the main channel.  Provisions will be made to address concerns property owners on the southwest side of the main channel may have regarding ingress and egress from their docks during the race.  The dates requested and approved for the boat race are August 23-24, 2008.

"The layout of the course ended up being the key factor.  The course is straight and can be pushed up against one side of the channel which makes it easier to manage from our standpoint.  Ron Dugan of Captain Ron's Restaurant made contact with Staff for Life and Lake Regional Hospital to address some of our emergency medical service concerns.  Staff for Life will commit a helicopter to be on-site at the event," said Colonel Talburt.  "Safety is our priority. Out of the three applications, I believe this will be the safest location," he said.

Wappapello Lake teams with Murphy Oil to deliver safety message
The safety message in at the facility in Dexter, Mo.

Park Ranger Andrew Jefferson (left), with Murphy Oil Facility Manager Kathy Boyt, and Wappapello Lake Operations Manager Gary Stilts.

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake (St. Louis District) is breaking new ground when it comes to public safety education.

We have reached an agreement with Murphy Oil Corporation to place scrolling safety messages on their gasoline pumps during this holiday season and the 2008 summer recreation season. The dual message is simply:

“Buckle Up!
Life jackets and seat belts
SAVE LIVES!”

Their facilities are located at Wal Mart stores in southeast Missouri (West Plains, Houston, Mountain Grove, Fredericktown, and Dexter). Remember – we all have loved ones and one fatality is one too many.

If you are interested in partnering with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in promoting safety on our waterways and highways, please feel free to contact Park Ranger Andrew Jefferson at (573 222-8562).

Bill,
This is me on the Meramac in Fenton near our house. I'm on a 20 year old "Sail-board" that I found at a second hand shop. I may even take it up on the Mississippi this summer. As expensive as gas is, I'm sure glad to have water-toys that don't use any. I'm starting to see more kayakers than powerboats some days.

Commercial Fisherman Net Flying Carp........  According to a news story on KSDK News Channel 5 .......the Kaskaskia River has one of the largest concentrations of the flying Asian Carp in the State of Illinois and they have asked commercial fishermen to help clean out the river by catching as many as they can.

In three short days, two fishing crews pulled more than sixty thousand pounds of the fish out of the Kaskaskia River.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources knows that more of the fish will replace those that have been caught, but they want to make insure they don't migrate from the Kaskaskia River into the Carlyle Lake.  Once in the lake they can grow larger and will cause more problems.

Commercial fishermen are also fishing for the flying  Asian Carp on several other rivers in Illinois.  An Illinois State Senator thinks the fish should be processed for food and fed to State prisoners.

Donate Your Christmas Tree for Fish Habitat Day at a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake

Don’t let your Christmas tree go to waste this year after the holidays. You can put your tree to good use by donating it for Fish Habitat Day at a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lake. We are teaming up with local organizations, state agencies and volunteers to collect, bundle and submerge the discarded Christmas trees in select locations at our lakes. These shelters provide fish with breeding areas and escape cover. Fish then have a better chance to reach maturity and provide a resource for anglers. New trees are added to select sites each year to maintain suitable cover.

Subject: Message From Senator Durbin

Dear Mr. Cranmer:

Thank you for contacting me regarding your concerns about proposed regulatory changes that may impact recreational boating. I appreciate hearing from you.

In September 2006, a California District court ruled that boats were subject to regulation for the incidental discharge of pollutants under section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Under Section 404, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is tasked with operating a system of discharge permits called the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). In the past, the EPA applied NPDES regulations to land-based sources of water pollution, like sewage treatment plants and industrial facilities, but exempted commercial and recreational vessels from the permit process.

The suit, brought before the Northern California District Court, dealt specifically with the discharge of ballast water by commercial ships. Commercial vessels often take on significant amounts of water for the purpose of maintaining stability. Ballast water is pumped out of the ship in the course of its voyage or when the vessel reaches its destination. This ballast water may contain exotic species that drive out local wildlife and upset a local ecosystem's natural balance. For example, the release of ballast water is thought to be responsible for the invasion of zebra mussels in the Great Lakes.

The Court's ruling extended NPDES regulations more broadly to all vessels and any incidental discharge of pollutants. The EPA has expressed concern over the court's decision, citing serious obstacles to monitoring and enforcing these newly applied regulations. One potential problem is that NPDES permit requirements differ from state to state. Many boaters travel in waters off the coasts of multiple states and would be forced to apply for multiple discharge permits.

It is important that we address the issue of ballast water and the introduction of aquatic invasive species. At the same time, we must be careful not to overburden recreational boaters with unfair or unnecessary regulation.

The Recreational Boating Act of 2007 (H.R. 2550) would exempt recreational vessels from the requirements of the NPDES permit process. H.R. 2550 has been referred to the House Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee. There is no corresponding legislation pending in the Senate, but I will keep your concerns in mind in case this matter is brought before the Senate in the future.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please feel free to keep in touch.

Sincerely,
Richard J. Durbin
United States Senator

RJD/ec

New Wood River D&LD Pump Station Completed....

The Corps of Engineers and the Wood River Drainage and Levee District completed construction of a new 45 cfs pump station with ditches and necessary appurtenant facilities for removal of water impounded by the existing levee in the southern area of the D&LD known as Grassy Lake.  The Grassy Lake Pump Station is located near the intersection of Route 111 and Canal Road in Roxana, IL on the Cahokia Diversion Canal (which flows into the Mississippi River), about 1.5 miles upstream from the Mississippi River.  Construction on the pump station began in 2006 and was completed on November 15, 2007.  The project is a cost share between the federal government and the Wood River Drainage and Levee District with the federal government contributing 75 percent of the total cost and Wood River contributing 25 percent.

Currently, rainfall inside this area of the D&LD drains to one of the many pipes through the bottom of the levee called gravity drains and flows out of the levee system.  However, when there is high water in the Mississippi River, the D&LD must close the drains to prevent water from flowing into the levee system.  When the drains are closed, any rainfall inside the D&LD accumulates near the gravity drains until the Mississippi River is low enough that the gravity drains can be reopened.  This accumulated water causes damage to crops and structures.  The D&LD will now be able to minimize water damage caused by accumulated rainfall at closed gravity drains.  The new pump station will mechanically remove accumulated water from inside the levee system during times of high water in the Mississippi River.

Missouri State Water Patrol News Release.....

NEWS RELEASE

PUBLIC INFORMATION SECTION, P.O. Box 1368, Jefferson City, MO  65102

For further information contact: Lieutenant Nick R. Humphrey
Public Information Director
Phone: (573) 751-3333
E-mail: Nick.Humphrey@mswp.dps.mo.gov

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jefferson City, Missouri

Water Patrol Officer Named Missouri State Employee of the Month

Missouri State Water Patrol Officer Frederick Guthrie, Jr. was selected as the November 2007 Employee of the Month for the Department of Public Safety. He has now been selected by Governor Blunt, from over 55,000 Missouri state employees, as the December 2007 Missouri State Employee of the Month. Officer Guthrie was selected for these awards for heroic action during a severe thunderstorm on Smithville Lake.

On June 22, 2007 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm hit Smithville Lake. Severe lightning and heavy rain were accompanied by winds up to 60 miles per hour, resulting in waves of 6 feet in height. The Water Patrol received reports that several boats were swamped or capsized near the Route W Bridge. Officer Guthrie proceeded toward the bridge to provide assistance by patrol boat.  Shortly after setting out, Officer Guthrie determined that his patrol boat was not capable of negotiating the rough water. He reluctantly decided to return to his marina and determine an alternate response plan.  A few moments later, Officer Guthrie was informed by radio that a woman was thrown from one of the boats.  The victim was not wearing a floatation device and had struggled to reach a buoy where she was clinging for her life.  Risking his own life in a boat that was not designed for such conditions, Officer Guthrie turned his boat around and negotiated several miles of exceptionally rough water to reach the victim. Officer Guthrie retrieved the weakened victim from the water and took her to shore to receive medical care. Once Officer Guthrie got the woman to safety, he returned to the area where the boats had capsized to look for others until all victims were accounted for.

Officer Guthrie is assigned to the Platte and Missouri Rivers in Northwest Missouri. A recognition ceremony honoring Officer Guthrie will be scheduled with Governor Blunt at the State Capitol.

This year Gary and Judy Meinershagen spotted the Barbara Ann in Key West.  They went down to the dock, talked to the owner and took some pictures.  On Nov 4, 2007 we featured their e-mail and pictures below.

River Bill,

Hello again from Key West. When we were out deep sea fishing the other day, we found the "Barbara Ann" in the Harbor. Barbara Ann was the former boat of Danny and Barbara Wagner from St. Charles, Missouri. It still has "Port of St. Louis" on the back. What a thrill to see it down here in Key West. We went back to the harbor today and met Captain Wally, the present owner, and got aboard for a tour.

Attached are the pics we took.

The River Pictures on this Day In 2006 ----Friday-- were some pics from the logging operation that was going on at Two Branch Island last year.  As you can see there were plenty of logs stacked up and ready to be trucked away.  Two Branch Island is across the river directly behind the piles of logs.

Some readers were afraid that the island was going to be stripped and cleared, but that didn't happen.  There are still plenty of trees standing on the island.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jefferson City, Missouri

Buoy Moratorium

The Missouri State Water Patrol will not be approving any new applications for "no wake, idle speed" buoys for private docks at this time. The patrol has formed a committee to review the current buoy guidelines and recommend changes. The current guidelines are outdated and have created problems on certain bodies of water. Some of the issues that have raised concern include: boater confusion due to the large number of buoys at private residential docks, improper maintenance of the buoys by many permit holders, and improper placement. The committee will be considering various factors, including criteria used by other states to permit buoys at individual docks. Although many details still have to be worked through, permanently phasing out "no wake, idle speed" buoys at private individual docks is under serious consideration. The Water Patrol will host public meetings in the spring of 2008 to invite public comment on the revised guidelines.

More on Snookiedog.......   This is for you dog lovers out there.  I know you can identify with what Gary is describing here and I hope this memory of Snookiedog puts a smile on your face today......

She was a true River Dog.......she would always bark when I started the motors....wouldn't stop barking till they started. That was OK if they started.....not OK if they didn't. However, she was just trying to help. She was a true treasure. I'm not looking forward to the first trip on the river next year without her.

Christmas Cookies .......    Ron and Mare Rubel, who hail out of Two Branch Marina, sent us a Christmas Cookie recipe !

Cuervo Cookies

I know it's a little early, but it is time to start baking for the
holidays. This is the BEST Christmas Cookie recipe EVER!

Christmas Cookies

1 cup of water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup of sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup of brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
1 cup nuts
2 cups of dried fruit
1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK, try another cup just in case.

Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit, Pick the frigging fruit off floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Check the Jose
Cuervo.

Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

ITCS MEMO # 2617

As of 1500, December 10, status of the Florence Highway Drawbridge, mile 56.0 and the Beardstown Railroad Drawbridge, mile 88.8 is as follows:

Florence: Unable to open due to 1/2" to 3/4" ice accumulation on bridge. Drawtender tried lifting the bridge on Sunday and raised it approximately 1 foot before the bridge slammed back down breaking a restraining cable in the process.

Beardstown: Railroad used auxiliary power to try and lift the bridge. Motors engaged and then the gears started to smoke after 15 seconds, but were unable to lift bridge due to 1/2" to 3/4" ice accumulation on superstructure. Railroad personnel continue to de-ice with propane burners.

Both bridges are to notify the Coast Guard once they are able to open. Reiterated the urgency on getting bridges open to navigation.

More on the Metro-East Levee System.......   According to a news article in the Belleville News-Democrat Metro-east leaders are going forward with plans to raise their share of the money that's needed for making repairs to the Metro-East area's levee system.   The repairs could cost up to $180 million.

Local levee districts own 4 of the levee systems that protect the Metro-East area from the Mississippi River and in order to get federal funding for the project, the levee districts and the local governments are responsible for  35 % of the repair costs.  That amount is estimated to be  $31 million to $47 million.

De-certification of the levees would hurt property values in the area as well as cripple economic growth and investment.

Power Producing Turbines On The Mississippi River.......   The on-line Waterways Journal has an interesting bit of information about a company from Massachusetts that wants to install turbines on the Mississippi River from St. Louis to New Orleans in order to produce power for utility companies.

The Free Flow Power Corporation is developing a turbine that will operate in a lower-pressure environment and has begun to receive permits from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission….

Our River Picture and e-mail of the Day.... Are from Little John !

Hi All

Its Little John.
I apologize for taking so long to report in after the world finals, but I have been pretty busy licking my wounds.
The down side to this report is, that after spending an incredible amount of money on a new and bulletproof engine, we ran .003 (that is three thousands of a second) too fast in the first round of eliminations, and our race was over.
Let me explain what I feel are some of the reasons.
First, we are dealing with more power than we ever dreamed of. Second, on our day of testing, it was windy and rainy, Ashly made every pass that she could, to get the engine broke in.
On the second pass, she had to back out to maintain control in the wind, (she nearly took out a track marker) once under control, she was right back in the throttle again.
That showed me more common sense, and skill, than a few heroes who thought they could make it, AND LOST THEIR BOATS
Third, in QUALIFING A perfect pass, in our class, is a 10.000
We ran a 10.008  and were third place (there were two 10.001s)
There were also 30 boats in our class.
With a pack that tight, we had to push the limit.
In that tune up, I thought we had a little forgiveness, but the engine just keeps getting stronger.
SOMETIMES YOU THE WINDSHIELD SOMETIMES YOU THE BUG

Although, we are disappointed about the finals, Little Johns Motorsports did not do badly.
We are High Point Champion in KDBA
We are #3 in SLDBA
We are #3 in IHBA
For the 2007 season, with the setbacks that we had, we had a great season in our first year.

Now, I would like to share in how the trip went.
Keith, Teri, and Casey Ruf took one rig, and I took the other.
We left on Sat, allowing plenty of easy traveling, with Teri on board, and still be in Phoenix by Wed.
My Terrie, Ashly, Jordan, and Dona Spain flew out on Wed. night to meet us at the track.
With work, and school, that was the only option.
Their plane tickets were one way, so they could come home in the rigs, on Thanksgiving week.
We left the track on Monday morning for two days of camping in Salt River Canyon, buried deep in the mountains of Arizona. NO TV,  NO PHONE SERVICE, NOTHING BUT BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY.
On Tues., we made Thanksgiving Dinner.

Deep Fried turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn, the whole deal.
All this was done right at the waters edge of The Salt River.
Please keep in mind, that Teri Ruf now has about 90% of her eyesight back
There are many pictures, but to see what she saw, and to be with her whole family
IT WAS A GOOD THANKSGIVING

When we left the canyon, it was 82 degrees; we woke up the next morning in 4 inches of snow.
The trip home was slippery, but safe.

Our River Pictures and e-mail of the Day.... Are from Larry Snopek !

Bill:

This past Sunday, while waiting for the Kampsville Ferry, I saw a large eagle sitting in a tree a few hundred feet south of the ferry landing in Greene County. I stopped at the Kampsville Inn, had a couple of brew pops, and decided to return today (Friday) with a better camera than the disposable one I had at the time. When I returned today, I saw 2 eagles perched in the same group of trees south of the landing. As luck would have it, by time I finished bumbling and fumbling with the camera, the eagles moved further down river. They were too far down river for me to get a picture, so I went over to the Kampsville side to get a few. From the Kampsville boat ramp, I saw 5 eagles in the area.

I returned to Alton, via Rte 100 and the Brussels Ferry. As it turns out, there was an eagle in the trees just west of the Brussels Ferry office.

Attached are a couple of photos of the Kampsville Ferry waiting for a tow to pass, a couple of photos of eagles in a tree across from Kampsville, and a photo of an eagle in a tree near the Brussels Ferry office. Sorry, Santa needs to bring me a camera with a telephoto lens. Take my word though, they were eagles.

Larry

RiverBill says....Thanks for the pictures of the ferry and the eagles Larry !  I think that is the very first picture that we have had of the Kampsville Ferry ....

Update on Metro East Levee Repairs........According to a news article in the on-line Post Dispatch the cost of repairing the aging levee system that protects the Metro East could be between $135 million to $180 million.   The levee system protects the American Bottom flood plane that extends from Alton, IL  to south of Columbia, IL.

Failure to repair the levees increases the risk of failure during a flood of the Mississippi River and residents in the area would be required to buy federal flood insurance. The levees protect the homes of more than 156,000 people and 4,000 businesses.

More on the Proposed ....

Lewis and Clark Community College, National Great Rivers Research and Education Field Station

The above map, from US Army Corps of Engineers Public Notice P-2652, shows the location of the proposed site for the Lewis and Clark Community College, National Great Rivers Research and Education Field Station.  It will be located left descending bank of the Mississippi River,  just down-river from the Melvin Price Lock and Dam at Alton, IL. on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property.

The facility is to function as a field station and laboratory for studying the ecosystem of the confluence of the Illinois, Missouri and Mississippi Rivers.  The approximate 30,000 square foot facility would house laboratories, classrooms, offices and support spaces.  The building has been designed to co-exist with the natural surrounding.  The cave like facility would have a grass roof with exterior walls constructed of local stone to emulate the the surrounding bluffs in the Alton area.  The project has been designed on guidelines from the U.S. Green Building Council - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.  The facility would be constructed with renewable energy equipped features such as two wind turbines, solar hot water, natural daylighting and possibly hydrokinetic power in the future.........

Navigation locks north of Guttenberg, Iowa, to close Dec. 8

Nov. 28, 2007

SAINT PAUL, MINN. --

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will close three of its Upper Mississippi River locks and dams north of Guttenberg, Iowa, to navigation, regardless of weather, Dec. 8, for winter maintenance work.

The other 10 locks operated by the St. Paul District, all of which are north of Guttenberg, are expected to close prior to that date due to weather conditions.

Lock and Dam 3, located north of Red Wing, Minn., will be closed Dec. 1 until March 15, which will allow the Corps to dewater and perform major maintenance on this lock during the winter. This rehabilitative work is scheduled every 20 years on each St. Paul District lock and dam. Lock and Dam 3 has not been dewatered since 1988.

Lock and Dam 5A, located near Fountain City, Wis., will be closed Dec. 3 until March 1 for the installation of bulkhead slots.

Lock and Dam 10, located in Guttenberg, Iowa, will be closed Dec. 8 until March 1 for continued major maintenance and rehabilitation work.

Local traffic wishing to lock through lock and dams not undergoing repair work may make advance arrangements with individual lockmasters.

The St. Paul District operates and maintains 13 locks and dams on the Mississippi River, beginning at Upper St. Anthony Falls in Minneapolis and ending at Lock and Dam 10 in Guttenberg, Iowa. Each dam represents a critical step in the "stairway of water" that makes navigation possible between Minneapolis and St. Louis.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, serves the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. It contributes around $163 million to the five-state district economy. The more than 625 employees work at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states. For more information, see www.mvp.usace.army.mil.

Illinois River Mud Safe For Gardens  …….   According to a news article in Sunday's edition of Peoria's  PJStar.com... scientist have determined that silt from the Illinois River is safe to use in ordinary gardens.

The city of Peoria plans to start dredging their harbor this month to rid it of the silty mud that is threatening to put it out of business.  Soon, thousands of cubic yards of Illinois River mud will be pumped into a retention basin near the city's marina.

The city has plans to transfer some of it, but is looking for other ways to get rid of the mud.   One idea.... give it to people wanting some good topsoil for things like gardens?

New Islands taking shape in St. Louis Harbor

St. Louis – The primary purpose of the construction of the three chevrons in the St. Louis Harbor was to reduce or eliminate dredging and to straighten the flow of water though the area that is complicated by the random location of bridge piers on several cross-Mississippi River bridges in the harbor. The added benefit can be seen in this image.

November 28, 2007 - Islands forming on the downstream

ends of the recently constructed chevrons in the St. Louis

Harbor near the McKinley and Merchants bridges

According to Corps of Engineers Project Manager Leonard Hopkins, the islands are formed when the chevrons are overtopped. A scour hole is created and the material is deposited just downstream, in the shadow of the chevron. He added that the islands should increase in size over time.

Hello All..... is it getting to COLD for you ???

Well I thought I would announce an exciting event which I do every year and have done for the past 21 years

To all Wakeboarders ,waterskiers, friends, customer, & family is it getting to COLD for you ??????

Well I thought I would announce an exciting event which I do every year and have done for the past 21years

WATERSKIING ON NEW YEARS DAY on the Mississippi in Front of the ARCH in St Louis

CRAZY sure it is but I have done this to raise $$$$$$$$ for Charity. The $$$ raised will promote Waterskiing Clinics for Disabled Athletes with the MISSOURI DISABLED WATERSKI ASSOCIATION who are now forced to be in Wheelchairs.

The money raised is used to purchase specialized waterskis & equipment for the Disabled. We will do several Learn to Water Ski Day at various locations including Creve Coeur Lake, lake St Louis & other locations during the summer 2008,  with over 50 Disabled Athletes waterskiing. ITS AWESOME and we now have a Specialized Wakeboard for them to ride on as well

None of this would be available for the Disabled Athletes with out the courage of several people who raise $$$ MONEY & waterski on New Years Day and the many friends & sponsors who donate their $$ to the event along with the support & sponsorship of STATEAMIND Watersports this years major Sponsor and TIGE & MALIBU Boats who bring the Boats to the river so we can ski

So what do you think are you ready for the CHALLANGE???
COME OUT AND WATERSKI WITH ME !!! If your not its OK, your support is important too. Each year many of you have contributed to this event but just think if you asked a friend to donate too!! Our fundraising could easily double

We really need people to help us raise $$$$ for Disabled Athletes. Skiers can promote it by having people sponsor them for their Courage going in the cold water, Non Skiers can Promote it by telling friends about the event and asking them to help promote Watersking & Snow Skiing for Disabled Athletes & children. Many people have seen us on TV & in the paper every New Years Day.

OH did I forget you also have the chance to get yourself on TV or in the News Paper each year if you would like to ski. Do something crazy wear something crazy wear nothing , we have had all kinds of crazy antics so be creative.
All skiers who raise over $200 will get a Gift Certificate for a FREE Waterski Lesson from Lakeshore Ski Company

If you would like to help, ski, attend, raise $$ or any thing please send me your e-mail and I will forward you the necessary info and set some plans for reaching our Goal!!!

Many of you have supported me & contributed to this event for many years just think if you asked your Company, a friend, relative, co-worker or neighbor and they donated we could double our donation to the chatrity. I HAVE ATTACHED A DONATION SHEET FOR YOUR USE PLEASE take a look and tell someone about the COLD water we will be skiing in and the fun it brings to our Disabled Athletes, i know they will pitch in.

I send a letter to friends, customers, relatives and I have people from all around the United States who donate $$ to me each year last year I raised over $9700.00 by myself do you think you can help me break the $10,000.00 goal. I have never done it but have been close several years

PLEASE SEE MY ATTACHMENT    PRINT IT OUT AND USE IT TO HELP US

Our River Picture and e-mail of the Day...Saturday... is from Mike Sharky, with a story about last year's winter storm.

Bill,

December 1st will be one year since we lost our beloved river boat to Mother Nature's ice storm. So many damaged boats and lives changed up and down the river as a result of that event.
Ours was one of them.

1. Summer 2006 - Pristine '88 250 CC Sea Ray at Hat Island - Summer fun!
2. December 1st, 2006 - Pristine '88 250 CC Sea Ray, crushed by Mother Nature's version of Pearl Harbor
(my boat is lower right with the green bow sticking out at John's Harbor) - Boat destroyed and totaled.
3. Summer 2007 - Is the replacement boat, '89 260 CC Sea Ray

How 'bout that!
Due to space and timing issues we now hail out of Woodland Marina and because of what happened, we named the boat "Compromising Positions".
Dedicated River Rats and those who also had to recover from that ice storm might appreciate our story.

See you on the water,
Mike Sharkey

The River Picture on this Day In 2005 ---Sunday--- .was sent in by Captain Glenn Sadowski out of Woodland Marina.  Glenn wrote in his e-mail;

In regard to today's  (11-30-05) "Not your normal Patrol" ....

Hats off to all those emergency responders!

Here's a photo of the Auxiliary Vessel "Liberty"  that I snapped on that day.

River Bill says.......... A person has to wonder just what is going in the minds of these folks when this picture was snapped.  They are heading out towards a large burning boat and all kinds of things could happen.  Looks like the firefighters, a man and a woman,  are from Orchard Farm (OFFPD).  The Coast guard Auxiliary is transporting them to the fire.

Both, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Firefighters did a fine job on that day...And they usually don't get enough credit for it.

As you said......

HATS OFF TO ALL THE EMERGENCY RESPONDERS.

Dardenne Greenway Update…….  According to a news article in the on-line St. Louis Post Dispatch......... The Great Rivers Greenway District has abandoned its plan to develop a trail along the entire length of Dardenne Creek in St. Charles County because of the " indifference or even hostility" of some of the land owners.
