Our 2nd River Picture of the Day ------ is another of some of the River Crew later on in the evening gathered at "Camp Carl" for a bon fire and little socializing. The night was a bit chilly but our hosts, Carl and Mary, kept the fire going and as always Carl was cooking up a feast. From left to right in the front row sitting are Bernie, Steve, Sharon, Sue and Pat. From left to right standing are Ernie, Phil, Scott, Robbin, Dani, John and Mary.     As you can see the bon fire was really blazing and it stole most of the light from this picture.

The lock and dam are on the left hand side of this picture and river channel can be seen out of the mouth of the slough. This is a popular hangout for a lot of boaters in the Spring when the river is flooding and the water in the slough is deep enough to navigate. In the summer months it pretty much dries up.

Our River Picture of the Day ------ was taken this week in New Orleans near the French Quarter. It is of the some of the river crew at the Mississippi Riverfront. From left to right - Bill, Judy, Gary and Laura. The riverfront is a very appealing with walkways for pedestrians and many attractions. A good place to spend a few hours relaxing while doing some river watching and people watching. The river was very busy that day. Some of the things we seen include the Riverboat Natchez leaving the dock as it headed down-river for a cruise and another ship heading up-river.     "Oh Buoy" - then there are the buoys ! Much, much larger than those used in our area of the river.

In the next one he has his head down checking out the catch. (He is flying towards us.) The 3rd picture is an excellent shot of the eagle and his prey. Mr. Pat Reid of "Crystal Photography" also took this set of pictures. Check out his website http://www.crystal-photo.net.     Thanks for the pictures Pat.
Piasa Bird ------ There was an article in yesterday's on-line Post Dispatch about the recreational and tourism project at Piasa Park. The park is nestled in the bluffs along the Great River Road near Alton, IL and the one improvement that should be real noticeable to us boaters is that the Piasa Bird will be light up at night. The next time you are on one of those after dark cruises this coming boating season, make sure to head that way and take a look.   For more information go to Stltoday.com .
